Salou brings together coastal landscapes, art and architectural history. The Coastal Path, the coves around Cap Salou and the Torre Vella reflect different sides of the town. When planning your trip, you can first consider whether you want to spend your days mainly on coastal paths and in nature, or exploring architecture, collections and archaeology. If you’re looking for a hotel in Salou, you can use this mix as a guide to planning your stay.

Coastal Paths, Coves and Nature

The Coastal Path is 9.49 kilometres long and runs along the coast from Punta de Sant Pere to Racó de Salou at Cap Salou. Along the way are Llarga Beach and the coves of Penya Tallada, Font, Vinya and Crancs. This means the named coastal route takes in several distinct stretches of shoreline—not just one beach.

Salou has 25 beaches and coves, nine of which are equipped with facilities for visitors. Cala Morisca Park adds a distinct natural setting to the coastal landscape: it covers 9,200 square metres by the sea and offers vegetation, sea views and cliffs. The park is part of the Coastal Path and offers views of Cala Crancs.

Between the Ebro Delta and the Costa Brava, Cap Salou is designated an Espacio de interés geológico (EIG), or Area of Geological Interest. At Cap Salou, Posidonia meadows are also protected by the European Union as habitats of Community interest. Nature enthusiasts can also watch seabirds here—birds that are difficult to see from the beach.

Another way to explore the area is the Faro de Salou and its path, which has three viewpoints: Mirador Sur, Mirador Centro and Mirador Norte. The lighthouse was inaugurated in 1858. While the Coastal Path is described in terms of its beaches and coves, the three named viewpoints give the Faro path a clear focus.

Art, Architecture and Local History

The Torre Vella was built in 1530 on the orders of Pere de Cardona, Archbishop of Tarragona, to protect this stretch of coast from pirate raids. Today, it is a cultural centre devoted mainly to art exhibitions. The Torre Vella is also home to the Museu de l’Esmalt Contemporani. Its collection includes 20th-century enamel works by artists from around the world—linking the site’s history with contemporary art.

La Masia Catalana was built in 1974 and was initially conceived as a monumental nativity scene. It is set in a green park with native vegetation and pine trees. The Font Lluminosa is another landmark with a known date: it was created in 1973 by engineer Carles BuĂŻgas.

The Church of Santa María del Mar was built in 1766 by Salou’s seafarers’ guild. Its murals are by Lluís M. Güell, while the paintings in the baptistery were created by Josep Grau Garriga. Another architectural landmark is Chalet Bonet, built in 1918. This late Modernist work was designed by architect Domènec Sugranyes i Gras, a student and collaborator of Gaudí.

Archaeological sites are also part of Salou’s history. The Greek site of Kallipolis is located in the La Torre Alta area of Racó de Salou, right on the coast. One dated access notice is important for planning a visit: a municipal announcement from 8 April 2026 stated that guided tours were the way to visit the site, except during special events. These tours were free, but required advance booking through Reservaplay. Check the latest dates and booking arrangements before visiting.

The archaeological park of the Roman villa at Barenys contains the remains of a rectangular building used for ceramic production. It dates from the late 1st century BC to the mid-2nd century AD. Together with Kallipolis, this site offers a broader view of Salou’s archaeological heritage, although the two sites represent different periods.

The marina accommodates pleasure boats and is considered an important starting point for water sports. Coastal routes, nature watching, architectural history and water sports offer different ways to enjoy a stay.
