Riudecanyes offers a range of highlights for an exploratory trip: walks and water activities at the PantĂ de Riudecanyes, historic buildings, and insights into olive and mill traditions. There are also different ways to visit: alongside time spent at the reservoir, there is a bookable guided tour and experiences devoted to specific themes. This allows you to decide whether landscape, architecture or local culture will be the main focus of your trip.
Reservoir and landscape
Riudecanyes lies inland from the Costa Daurada. The municipal area rises through the Serra de l’Argentera, providing a viewpoint over much of the Camp. The Pantà de Riudecanyes is a place for walks and enjoying the surrounding landscape. Swimming is permitted; visitors can also go paddle surfing, kayaking and pedal boating there.
The reservoir is easy to access and has a car park; from there, the picnic area is a ten-minute walk away. Check the latest information about access and water use before your trip.
Castell Monestir and Sant Mateu
The Castell Monestir de Sant Miquel d’Escornalbou dates from the late 12th and early 13th centuries. The complex includes a Romanesque church, the remains of the chapter house and a cloister. It is complemented by the carefully reconstructed manor house of Sr. Toda, dating from the early 20th century. At the summit of the complex stands the Ermita de Santa Bà rbara, which offers views across the comarques of Tarragona.
The Església de Sant Mateu de Riudecanyes offers a different architectural focus: it was built in 1582 as a Renaissance church of stone and mortar. Its two-tier bell tower is 20 metres high, and the clock was built in 1845. The town thus brings together different architectural styles and historic details.
Olives, mills and regional themes
The Centre d’Interpretació dels Fruits del Paisatge is housed in the former building and mill of the Cooperativa de Riudecanyes. Audiovisual media, panels and interactive games introduce the landscapes, history and traditions of the inland Costa Daurada and Baix Camp. The centre also showcases the landscapes of the Muntanyes de la Costa Daurada and the quality products they yield.
The Camà dels Molins leads back towards Riudecanyes. Its information panels reveal the town’s former flour, rice and sulphur mills. While the route explores this milling tradition, the interpretation centre brings together landscape and regional products in its choice of themes.
Several centuries-old Arbequina olive trees can be visited in Riudecanyes. The “Viure la Terra” route is a bookable oleotourism route focusing on olive growing and the characteristics of olives and olive oil. If you plan to take the route, check the latest booking details.
Guided tour and Fira Tastaverd
The Ruta per la Baronia d’Escornalbou is a bookable guided tour that begins at the Castell Monestir de Sant Miquel d’Escornalbou. It includes a stop at the Riudecanyes reservoir, followed by a visit to the town and its interpretation centre. The tour thus combines a historic starting point with a stop by the water and a visit to the town. Check the latest booking details and itinerary in advance.
The Fira Tastaverd, also known as the Fira dels Sentits, takes place on the Saturday before Holy Week. It focuses on organic and natural products, crafts and traditional trades, and features folk music and castells. Check the latest dates and programme when planning your trip.
