Jujol’s architecture, fields and forests give Els Pallaresos its different facets: the town is home to several buildings with clear historical markers, while the uncultivated half of the municipal area is shaped by pine forests and garrigue. Els Pallaresos 1900 is also part of its cultural identity: this Modernist historical reenactment event in Camp de Tarragona has been held since 2020; a 2026 edition is also part of the series.

Jujol and the history of the buildings

Casa Bofarull is a former masia (traditional farmhouse) that Josep M. Jujol remodelled from 1914 onwards. Its distinctive features include a tower crowned by an angel and a gallery with Moorish-style arches. The tower and gallery draw attention to two different scales of the building: its silhouette and the detail of the arch forms. The gallery thus provides a counterpoint to the tower: rather than the soaring form, it is the recurring line of the arches that catches the eye.

The present-day Centre Jujol was created from the former town hall and former schools. It was remodelled to commemorate the work of the architect Josep M. Jujol in Els Pallaresos. The remodelling thus brings two former functions together in a present-day centre whose purpose is to commemorate Jujol’s work.

The parish church of Sant Salvador offers another point of comparison across time: the Baroque building transitions into Neoclassicism and was consecrated in 1796. Jujol worked on the church between 1944 and 1947. His interventions included the tabernacle and the side altars, with their notable wrought-iron work. The consecration and Jujol’s later work mark different phases in the building’s history.

Casa Andreu Fortuny also reflects Jujol’s work in several stages: he remodelled the house between 1920 and 1927, and again in 1944. On the first floor, the windows have curved lintels and sills; on the ground floor is a distinctive three-part balcony. A fountain dating from 1863 is set into the façade. The remodelling phases and the date of the fountain represent different points in time at the same building.

Landscape and trails

The coastal foothills protect Els Pallaresos. The uncultivated half of the municipal area is covered by pine forests and garrigue. Traditional dryland farming includes hazelnuts, almonds, carob, olives and grapevines. The town can therefore be understood both through its natural vegetation and its agricultural tradition.

A walking route from Camp de Tarragona railway station to Tarragona railway station passes through Els Pallaresos. It follows roads and trails between hazelnut fields and forests. There is a specific wayfinding note for the section between Els Pallaresos and Coll del Mas Roig: the route can be confusing to navigate at the beginning of this section. If you plan to take this stretch, it is worth following the route particularly carefully.

Another highlight is Parc Infantil de la Font de la Mina, a recreational area for children. A municipal improvement notice dated 3 July 2026 describes it as such.

The Cursa de la Dona also offers a clearly dated event: the fifth edition included a 10 km race, a 5 km race and an adapted race in 2025.
