Els Guiamets is located in Baix Priorat, on the border with Ribera d'Ebre. Mountains, the reservoir and routes give the town a varied landscape; its history and local wine-growing heritage add to its appeal. When planning your trip, it is worth considering these topics separately: route information ranges from two sections with specific distances to a longer route connecting several towns, while history and festival culture offer their own reasons to visit.

Landscape between mountains and water

The municipal area is shaped by the northwestern foothills of the Tivissa mountains and Mola de Llaberia. The Pantà dels Guiamets is also part of the local landscape: most of the reservoir lies within the municipal area, and its capacity is 10 Hm³. The Riera de Capçanes is another watercourse in this context. It drains Els Guiamets and is a tributary of the Siurana. The reservoir, mountain ranges and watercourses are therefore distinct geographic features that help define the character of the municipal area.

Routes with different planning approaches

The Volta a la Serra de Llaberia circular route comprises two named sections: Capçanes–Els Guiamets, at 3.5 km, and Els Guiamets–La Serra d'Almos, at 5 km. The second section is therefore 1.5 km longer than the first. These distances make the sections directly comparable without needing to combine them into a single route distance.

Itinerari 3 connects Falset, El Masroig, Els Guiamets and Marçà, before returning to Falset. Despite its length, it is considered relatively manageable because it has no steep climbs. Here, the sequence of towns and the elevation profile are the main considerations, whereas the Volta a la Serra specifies the distances of its sections. Font de la Portadora is another natural attraction: it is a place to go for walks and enjoy nature. Falset is both the starting point and return point for Itinerari 3; it is connected by road via the N-420 and TV-3031.

History, festivals and wine

The parish church of Sant Lluís was built in 1791. The Tosseta archaeological site reaches much further back in time: almost a hundred flint blades dating to the Upper Palaeolithic were found there. This assemblage is among Catalonia's most significant prehistoric finds. At the base of the memorial to Neus Català is the inscription “porto terra dels Guiamets a les sabates”. The church, archaeological site and monument thus point to different aspects of local history, without being reduced to the same period or type of place of remembrance.

The cooperative winery also brings together history and local production. Celler Cooperatiu was founded in 1917, is currently part of the Unió company, and produces red wine, white wine and Mistela. The Festa Major is dedicated to Sant Lluís and Sant Fèlix and takes place from 20 to 25 August. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the dates before you travel; when planning a route, it is advisable to check current route conditions.
