La Plana de Mont-Ros lies on the Flamisell. The Mare de Déu de la Plana Sanctuary and a variety of routes give the village cultural and scenic points of interest. When choosing a route, the contrast between one with named stops and another that crosses the river and climbs through woodland is particularly noteworthy.

Routes with contrasting scenery

The Camino de la Plana a Mont-Ros starts in front of the village church on a paved stretch lined with pine trees. On the section before Mont-Ros, it leads to the Sant Marc Hermitage and then to a washhouse with a rest area featuring tables and benches, before the Camino enters the village. This route therefore focuses on both a specific starting point and named stops.

The route to Antist has a different character. After leaving La Plana de Mont-Ros, it follows a small, shady path lined with boxwood shrubs. It crosses the Flamisell and then climbs through a wooded area with an impressive oak forest. The contrast with the Camino is clear: here, shade, a river crossing and oak forest follow one another; on the Camino, the paved, pine-lined beginning stands out. The Flamisell also plays different roles in the village and along the routes: La Plana de Mont-Ros extends along the river, while the route to Antist crosses it.

Route 38b connects La Plana de Mont-Ros with Castell-estaó. Here, the two villages are the main points of reference, whereas the other routes mentioned are characterized by their landscapes. Check local trail conditions before setting out, as they can change.

Sanctuary and remembrance in the valley

The Mare de Déu de la Plana Sanctuary stands out in La Plana de Mont-Ros. At the same time, the villages of the valley preserve the memory of a hermit who carried the image of the Mare de Déu and also worked as a healer. You will encounter two distinct cultural points of reference: a named sanctuary in the village and a memory kept alive in the villages of the valley.

If you are interested in sacred sites and local traditions, you can take both into account when choosing the focus of your visit. The sanctuary is a specific place in La Plana de Mont-Ros; the memory of the hermit encompasses both the image and his work as a healer.

Getting there and choosing where to stay

The L-503 is a useful point of reference for getting there: it runs from Senterada through La Pobleta de Bellveí and onward towards Capdella, and La Plana de Mont-Ros is accessible via this road. When choosing where to stay, consider whether you would like to focus on the sanctuary and the valley-wide tradition, or on one of the different routes.
