In Alcarràs, there are different things to discover: a Baroque church stands above the remains of a castle, while a centuries-old oak and a route through a Natura 2000 site offer other perspectives. Festivals and an autumn fair round out the picture of the town. Which of these aspects interests you most may also play a role in choosing when to travel.

The Church and Festival Days

The Església Mare de Deú de l'Assumpció is a Baroque church built above the remains of the original castle. Construction was completed in 1786. The combination of architectural history and design gives a visit a clear cultural focus: here, you can see the Baroque church and the structural traces of the former castle site together.

The Festa Major d'Hivern is also firmly established in the annual calendar. Celebrated in honour of Sant Sebastià on 20 January, it lasts four days. Depending on how the dates fall in the calendar, the festival days may be before or after that date. If you would like to include this occasion in your plans, check the exact dates for the relevant year.

Oak, Trail and Protected Landscape

L'Alzina Centenària is a centuries-old oak in the Pla de l'alzina. It grew on a plain with no other trees; the area was formerly known as Partida del Coscollar. A signposted trail leads from the start of the Vallmanya L-800 road to the oak. This landscape experience centres on both a single, distinctive tree and a specific route to reach it.

The Route dels Pantans offers a different connection with the landscape, crossing the Natura 2000 site “Pantà de l'Arròs”. The two experiences are distinct: L'Alzina Centenària is a single oak on an open plain, while the route passes through a named protected area. When planning, you can therefore choose between visiting the oak and exploring the route, without treating them as a single trail.

Alcarràs Florit brings together landscapes and routes. The series reached its twelfth edition in 2025; that year, it offered routes by electric bike and bus through fruit-tree landscapes in full bloom. The 2025 edition provides a specific example of this combination of transport and flowering landscapes. Exact dates for future editions may vary and should be checked before making plans.

Autumn Fair and Local Produce

The annual autumn fair, Fira de Comerç i Rebost, promotes local fruit and meat. Its food-preservation section includes jam-making workshops, tastings of products from Alcarràs, displays of artisan goods, showcooking and wine pairings. The fair is therefore not focused on individual products alone: its varied programme ranges from workshops and tastings to demonstrations and exhibitions. Individual activities may vary from one edition to the next.

The Casa de Montagut is another festival venue. Festive and traditional activities are held there, including the Festa de Santa Anna in July. If this festival is important to your visit, check the exact dates before planning. Groups of at least ten people must book in advance at the Centre d'Interpretació del Món Rural d'Alcarràs; check this requirement again before making plans.

For a cultural focus, the church and winter festival offer different points of interest; those more interested in landscapes and local produce can explore the oak, the route and the autumn fair. The dates mentioned fall in different seasons. When choosing your stay, you can consider the topics that interest you alongside the relevant festival calendar.
