Claverol sits on a hill overlooking the Sant Antoni Reservoir. The village and its surroundings bring together architectural history and a range of ways to enjoy the outdoors: the parish church of Sant Cristòfol stands in the village centre, while the ruins of the Romanesque Mare de Déu de la Serreta lie southeast of Claverol. There is also a mountain biking route, an old walking trail and a trial course. You can shape your visit around culture, scenery or an event date.

The parish church and Romanesque architecture

The parish church of Sant Cristòfol is a stone building with a square bell tower. For a time, it served as the parish house of Sant Josep de Calassanç. The church therefore brings together two aspects of the village’s history: its architectural form and its former function as a parish house.

One kilometre southeast of Claverol stands the Mare de Déu de la Serreta, also known as the Mare de Déu de la Serra. The Romanesque chapel is in ruins. Its ground plan preserves the form of a single-nave building with a semicircular apse to the east. The masonry also offers a clue to its construction history: it dates the chapel to the late 11th century. Both its ground plan and the dating indicated by the masonry are therefore relevant to understanding the site.

Mountain biking route and walking trail

The mountain biking route starts at the reception centre, heads towards Pont de Claverol, then climbs to Claverol along a farm track through meadows and oak woodland. The route offers views of the Sant Antoni Reservoir. Its course and terrain give it a distinctive character, combining a farm track, an ascent and views of the reservoir.

Another option is the old trail between Sant Martí de Canals and Claverol. Restored in 2021, it is an easy walking trail through cultivated land, wooded areas and ravines. The mountain biking route and the walking trail differ in how you travel and in the sections described; they should not be treated as a single route simply because both are associated with Claverol. Check the trail’s current condition before setting out for a walk.

Trial competitions and festival days

An open trial course is located beside the village centre. Trial competitions are held there annually and count towards various championships. If you are planning your trip around a competition, check the date in advance so that your plans match the specific event date.

The festival days also provide dates to plan around: Claverol celebrates the Mare de Déu de la Serra festival on 4 February. The Festa Major takes place on 27 August or the corresponding weekend. The organisers may adjust the dates. So if you would like to plan your trip around one of the festivals, check the announced dates in advance. This lets you consider the local cultural sites, trails and a possible event date as different focal points for your stay.
