Belianes combines a rich cultural heritage with festival traditions and a designated natural area. To plan your trip, it helps to first decide what brings you here: Would you like to explore the architecture, learn more about oil and agriculture, or plan your trip around a festival date? The town hall, manor house, church and olive mill each represent a different side of the town. A guided visit links the olive mill with the Ecomuseu; advance booking is required.

The history of olive oil and rural life

The Molí d’oli Maurici Massot is a restored 17th-century olive mill. It was restored in 1998, and its original machinery, used to grind and press olives, has been preserved. The mill’s function helps visitors understand it as a record of olive oil production. The Ecomuseu broadens the picture of rural life: its collection includes tools and equipment, clothing, and documents of great historical and cultural interest. These two distinct focuses show how the history of olive oil and agriculture are connected: on the one hand, olive processing; on the other, objects and documents from everyday rural life. The guided visit links the two sites. Advance booking is required; check current availability before your trip.

Architecture from different centuries

The Ajuntament de Belianes is a Gothic civic building with Renaissance influences dating from the 16th and 18th centuries. It was declared a Bé Cultural d'Interès Nacional in 1979. Cal Roc offers a different architectural point of reference: this Catalan manor house dates from the 16th century and is built in the Renaissance style. It is privately owned. The present-day Església de Sant Jaume is also understood through its building history: construction of the late Gothic building began in 1563. Together, these buildings represent different architectural classifications rather than a single style defining the town. Visitors interested in architectural history can therefore consider the features of the town hall, manor house and church as separate topics.

Festival dates for planning your trip

Belianes’s Festa Major takes place in July; the exact dates change from year to year. Another traditional occasion falls in December: the Festa de l'Oli is celebrated in Belianes on the first Sunday of the month. The Patge reial includes a visit from the royal page as part of the festivities; it is usually held on the Sunday before New Year’s Day. The specific programme may vary. These three dates offer different options when choosing when to travel, but they do not fall within the same travel period. If you would like to plan your trip around one of the festivals, check the relevant dates and, for the Patge reial, the current programme as well.

Natural area and choosing your focus

The Secans de Belianes-Preixana natural area is designated as a ZEPA, or bird protection area, and extends partly across Belianes. This provides a distinct point of interest alongside the town’s architecture and history: a protected natural area. When deciding what to focus on during your trip, the themes are easy to distinguish: the buildings invite you to explore architectural history; the mill and Ecomuseu connect olive oil production with rural life; and the ZEPA adds the perspective of protected areas to these cultural themes.

So choose your trip based on the themes and dates that matter most to you.
