For a stay in Linyola, several clearly distinct themes come together: architectural history, routes and local traditions. The Església parroquial de Santa Maria is both a notable example of Late Gothic architecture and a stop on the Fars de Ponent route. Other routes pass through the town or its municipal area, each with its own focus—from the Camí de Sant Jaume to a circular route visiting sites from the Spanish Civil War. You can therefore plan your trip around whether you want to focus on cultural history, outdoor activities or a specific festival date.

Architectural history from Gothic to Modernisme

The Església de Santa Maria has a Renaissance portal and is considered a notable example of 16th-century Late Gothic architecture. It was built in the Gothic style between 1587 and 1600; alterations followed later, and the work was completed in 1969–1971. Its Late Gothic classification, portal and subsequent work represent different aspects of the architectural history of this church.

The Casa de la Vila adds a Renaissance manor house to the architectural story: construction began in 1556 and was completed as early as 1557. The Antic escorxador municipal represents a later period. This Modernisme building was built between 1929 and 1931 and is currently used for temporary exhibitions, workshops and other activities. If you plan to attend a specific exhibition or workshop, check the current schedule before your visit, as the programme may change.

Routes with different themes

The Camí de Sant Jaume passes through Linyola by the church and town hall and is part of Tram-4 of the Catalan trail network. Those interested in a route connected with the Spanish Civil War can choose a different option: Route 3, Escenaris de la Guerra Civil. This easy circular route is 8.7 kilometres long, runs clockwise and starts and ends at Plaça Planell. Along the way, it visits several sites from the Spanish Civil War in Linyola.

Another perspective is offered by the Ruta del riu Corb. It reaches Linyola from the direction of Estany d’Ivars i Vila-sana and follows paths along the Corb River through the municipal area. The Rutes Saludables de Linyola comprise six circular routes suitable for walking, cycling and other means of getting around, and are accessible to everyone. This gives you different formats to choose from: a single circular route with a stated distance and set course, and a network of six circular routes designed for several modes of travel.

The pilgrimage route also differs from these options in its course and its place in the trail network: the CamĂ de Sant Jaume passes through Linyola and is part of the Tram-4 section. Together with the route along the Corb and the six Rutes Saludables, it offers a choice of different route themes and formats, without all the routes sharing the same focus.

Festivals, plants and local traditions

Linyola’s Cassola de tros festival kicks off the year’s first Festa Major on 22 May, in honour of Santa Quitèria. The tradition dates back approximately 45 years. This is a clearly specified date to plan around. The Pessebre Vivent de Linyola has been held annually since 1999; it features traditional crafts and occupations as well as biblical scenes. The two traditions offer different cultural points of interest: a specific date in May on the one hand, and an annual living nativity scene on the other.

If you would like to focus on plants as well as architecture and routes, the Parc de les Olors de Linyola offers a theme of its own. The garden covers approximately 6,000 m² and includes more than 90 species of aromatic and medicinal plants, as well as more than 40 species of trees and shrubs. The park specialises in growing an emblematic plant. In Linyola, the tradition of making liqueur from it has never been lost. The garden’s collection and the local liqueur-making tradition are therefore among the distinctive cultural themes to consider when planning your trip.
