Valveralla lies on the right bank of the Riera Caudet, shortly before it flows into the Fluvià. Water and the town’s history offer different reasons to visit: water at Els Gorgs is currently used for water skiing, while Sant Vicenç and Can Marisch provide specific historical points of interest. When planning your trip, you can consider an activity on the water, a route through the town and the search for rural accommodation separately.

Water, routes and getting around

Els Gorgs de Valveralla are artificial lakes currently used for water skiing. The Xavi Mill water-ski centre is based there. If you plan to take part in this activity, check the booking and participation arrangements separately before planning the rest of your day around it.

A route description dated 7 April 2023 follows Route 127 from Ventalló through Vila-robau to Valveralla and around the town. For experienced hikers, it gives an approximate duration of two hours and 15 minutes, excluding breaks. The description also notes that the route is not signposted throughout: on sections where it coincides with other routes, there are Itinerannia signposts and yellow markings. As the route description dates from 2023, check the route and markings before setting out. The same description locates a small vehicle parking area at the entrance to the town, on Carrer Major; check its availability on site.

Church architecture and history

The present-day church of Sant Vicenç stands in the centre of Valveralla. It consists of a single nave with a barrel vault and lunettes, a straight-ended apse and side chapels between the buttresses. The main altar features an 18th-century neoclassical stucco altarpiece; wood carvings depict Saint Sebastian, Saint Christopher and the Virgin Mary. The building can therefore be understood both through its layout and the design of its altar.

The former Sant Vicenç de Valveralla should be distinguished from the present-day church. It stood about 200 metres west of Valveralla, on Pedró hill, also known as Església Vella. Several Roman finds have been documented in the Valveralla area. The churches and the finds provide different chronological points of reference for the town’s history.

Accommodation and travel dates

Can Marisch is a Gothic-Renaissance building dating from the 16th century. Can Marisch also offers three independent rural accommodations: Casa Pairal, Les Corts and Les Arcades. Check availability and booking conditions before making a reservation.

The Festa Major de Valveralla is a local festival held in October. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the specific dates in advance.
