Lloret De Mar offers several distinct perspectives on the coast: a long central beach, a sheltered cove and sections of the Catalan Mediterranean Trail. Gardens, archaeological history, seafaring and a wooded area around the Ermita de Santa Cristina also give the destination clear thematic highlights. This means you can plan your trip around not just the beach, but nature and culture as well.

Beaches: a central stretch or a sheltered cove

Lloret Beach is in the centre of Lloret De Mar and is over 1.5 kilometres long. At 700 metres, Platja de Fenals is the town’s second-largest beach. It lies in a cove sheltered from the winds by a mountain, separated from the town centre and Lloret Beach. This means a centrally located beach and a distinct cove are two different coastal settings to choose from.

The figures also give a clear sense of scale: Lloret Beach is more than twice as long as Fenals. The difference is therefore one of both location and the length of each stretch of beach.

The GR92 along the Catalan coast

Two sections of the GR92 pass through Lloret De Mar. The 583-kilometre long-distance trail runs along the entire Catalan coast and showcases coves, beaches and landscapes. The sections here are part of a longer coastal route; the stated total length refers to the long-distance trail. If you plan to walk a section during your trip, check the trail conditions beforehand, as they can change.

Gardens, an archaeological site and seafaring history

The Jardins de Santa Clotilde project offers a historical point of reference: in 1919, the Marqués de Roviralta commissioned it from the young landscape architect and architect Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí. A much earlier period is the focus at Puig de Castellet. The Iberian site was established around 250 BC and finally abandoned around 200 BC. These approximate dates mark the site’s establishment and abandonment.

The Museu del Mar is housed in the former Casa Garriga on Passeig Verdaguer; the building dates from the second half of the 19th century. The tour is divided into five sections and covers topics ranging from coastal shipping in the Mediterranean to transatlantic voyages across the Atlantic. Those interested in maritime cultural history will find a thematic journey here, from coastal traffic to Atlantic crossings.

Nature and festival traditions at Santa Cristina

The beaches of Santa Cristina and Treumal are in the area around the Ermita de Santa Cristina. Most of the ten-hectare grounds consist of natural Mediterranean woodland; signposted plant species and native fauna also give the area a natural-history character. This makes its landscape distinct from the central location of Lloret Beach: alongside the beach, the area described includes woodland, plants and native wildlife.

Santa Cristina is also the destination of an annual maritime procession on 24 July. During the procession, an image and a relic of the saint are taken from Lloret to Santa Cristina Beach. In the afternoon of the same day, the old ceremonial Ball de Plaça, also known as the Dansa de les Almorratxes, is performed. The S’Amorra Amorra regatta, a rowing competition involving nine clubs representing the former guilds, is also associated with the procession. The procession, dance and regatta each have a distinct, specifically named connection to local festival traditions.

A seasonal event in May

Lloret De Mar’s gastronomic rice days take place every year in May. The programme may change from year to year, so check the dates and programme details before your trip. Together with the July traditions held on a fixed date, the rice days offer another seasonal highlight to consider when planning your trip around culture and local events.
