Riudellots de la Selva can be explored through several specific themes: the history of a relocated settlement, the riverside landscape along the Onyar, Gothic architectural features and trails leading in different directions. This lets you weigh up your interests before your stay—whether you are more interested in local history, landscapes or cultural activities.

Water landscapes and local history

The Onyar is the main river in Riudellots de la Selva. Remnants of wetland vegetation still grow along the banks of the rivers and streams. These include rushes, cattails and ash trees.

The town’s history also records a notable connection with flooding: Riudellots de la Selva was relocated in the 15th century to avoid frequent floods. The river landscape and history therefore offer two different perspectives on the town—the vegetation by the water on the one hand, and the historical relocation of the settlement on the other.

Trails with different focuses

The Way of St James takes pilgrims towards Barcelona and enters the La Selva region via Riudellots de la Selva. From here, the route divides: one branch crosses the La Selva plain towards Hostalric, while an alternative follows the VĂa de Marina towards the coast. For orientation, the key point is this distinction: the route description gives two directions, rather than a single shared continuation.

The Camino del Onyar is an approximately 19-kilometre trail that reaches Riudellots de la Selva. Along the way, Mediterranean forests, fields on the plain and riverside forests along the Onyar alternate. Unlike the Way of St James, with its described branches, the focus here is on the approximate distance and the succession of different landscapes.

In addition, in May 2025 the municipality presented a programme of official walking and cycling routes intended to connect Riudellots with neighbouring municipalities via routes described as safe and accessible. This route plan is a separate initiative from the pilgrimage routes described above and the Camino del Onyar. So, if you include trails in your travel plans, check which route and type of connection is being referred to.

Gothic traces and culture

The town centre features Gothic portals, arches and lintels; the houses have largely retained their old appearance. Sant Esteve de Riudellots is a Gothic parish church built between 1500 and 1565.

The Casa de Cultura de Riudellots holds courses, workshops and talks in annual, quarterly or one-day formats. From September to June, its exhibition space presents a new solo or group exhibition on the first Friday of each month, unless that Friday is a public holiday. Check the current opening arrangements before your visit; individual offerings may change.

FIPORC is also an established event in the fair calendar of the Girona counties. It focuses on pigs and products made from them. Alongside exhibitions, courses and talks, it offers a distinct fair theme that differs clearly from architectural and landscape history.

Bus stops and practical information

Several bus stops are located in the town centre, including on C. EstaciĂł and Av. PaĂŻsos Catalans. Other stops are outside the centre, at the railway station, in the industrial area, and on the N-156 and N-II. Check the current timetables and destinations for your planned journey. When planning your trips around the area, you can compare current timetables and destinations with the places and activities that interest you.
