Vallgorguina offers several clearly distinct themes for a stay: the Museu del Bosc i la Pagesia presents the rural past, the Pedra Gentil dolmen is designated a Bé Cultural d'Interès Local, and churches add architectural history and historical records to the picture. There is also a storytelling route about witches and healers, as well as a section of the Via blava through named natural areas. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether to focus on cultural history, local stories or the landscape.
Rural History at the Museum
The Museu del Bosc i la Pagesia de Vallgorguina is housed in a renovated old building called Can Mainou and opened in 2016. It presents Vallgorguina’s rural past through forestry and farming tools, as well as photographs and audiovisual materials. The different types of material are presented side by side: the tools offer a tangible way into the subjects, while the photographs and audiovisual content complement the presentation.
The information point at the museum provides general information about the park and also serves as the starting point for several signposted hiking trails. If you plan to go hiking, check the information point’s operating details before you set out.
Pedra Gentil and the Storytelling Route
The Pedra Gentil dolmen, also known as the Dolmen of Vallgorguina, is located in the municipality of Vallgorguina. The Generalitat de Catalunya has designated it a Bé Cultural d'Interès Local (BCIL). One practical planning consideration is the access path from the car park: in April 2024, it was restored as a 121-metre route with a gentler gradient. If the condition of the path matters for your plans, check its current state before your visit.
The Ruta-Joc de les Bruixes de Vallgorguina is an interactive walk using an app and hidden QR codes. Around the Pedra Gentil dolmen, it presents stories about the witches and healers of Vallgorguina. The dolmen therefore features in two distinct contexts: as designated cultural heritage and as a focal point of a local storytelling route. The app may change; if the digital elements are essential to your plans, check them before travelling.
Churches and Different Historical Periods
Two dates help distinguish the historical records from the architecture of Sant Andreu de Vallgorguina. The church has been documented since 1083 and belonged to the monastery of Sant Cugat at that time. The building is a 19th-century example of vernacular Baroque architecture and bears the date 1848. The years have different significance: 1083 refers to the documentary record and the church’s affiliation with the monastery at the time, while 1848 appears as a date on the building.
Santa EulĂ lia de Tapioles has a different focus: the architectural complex comprises a church, a cemetery and a residential building. Its description thus consists of several named elements, whereas Sant Andreu is discussed in terms of architectural history and different historical periods. If you are interested in architecture, the two sites offer different perspectives that you can consider independently.
A Route Through Natural Areas
The Via blava de Vallgorguina a Sant Celoni also adds a distinct landscape element to your plans: one section runs through the Espai d'Interès Natural and the Parc Natural del Montnegre i el Corredor. Unlike the cultural sites described above, the focus here is on a route section through named natural areas. This lets you choose between cultural history, local stories and a connection with nature, without having to make a fixed itinerary.
