At CamĂ del Pont, a restored path with native planting offers the opportunity to observe plants and animals. Together with the church, the Roman milestone, and El Forn exposiciĂł rural, it gives Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues a variety of travel highlights: walks, local history, and rural life. Winery visits and wine and cava tastings add to these options. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether nature watching, cultural and historical traces, or wine experiences are most important to you.

Walks and Landscapes

CamĂ del Pont has been restored and planted with native vegetation to provide residents and visitors with a place to walk and relax. Various plant and animal species can be observed along the path. These include poplars, fig trees, ivy, and broom, as well as geckos, bee-eaters, salamanders, and hedgehogs. This makes the walk interesting if you want to take in not only the path but also its plant and animal life.

The path to Font del CuscĂł leaves the vineyards of the plain behind and leads into the forest. Font del CuscĂł is a spring-like hollow in a natural rock face. An archaeological site with remains from the Iberian and Roman periods is located at the spring. The difference between this walk and CamĂ del Pont is clear: the latter focuses on observable plants and animals, while this route also features the transition from vineyards to forest, the rock face, and archaeological remains.

Local History and Rural Life

The church of Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues is considered a building with medieval, modern, and contemporary stylistic elements. A document from 1188 mentions the parish of Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues. Its architecture and written local history offer different ways to explore the town’s past.

The Roman milestone “Mil·liari romà” was erected in 2018 to mark the ancient course of the Via Augusta. It also contains cultural and historical information about a route connecting twelve municipalities in Alt Penedès. The historical perspective therefore extends beyond individual buildings to include the regional route.

El Forn exposiciĂł rural tells the story of communal bread production and rural daily life. The building was constructed between 1915 and 1920 for the bread cooperative and was initially used as a warehouse for the Sindicat. During the Spanish Civil War, it was converted into a cooperative bread oven and used as such for only a few years. During its renovation in 2003, it was fitted out to house a local collection, with a curated exhibition of tools and equipment from agriculture and rural life. The succession of its uses gives the site a different historical focus from the church or the Roman milestone.

Guided Walk and Wine Experiences

The guided walk “Passejada guiada per la història de Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues” focuses on rural life and the history of the town. It therefore offers a distinct focus on history and everyday life. Tourist options also include winery visits and wine and cava tastings. Check directly with the winery concerned to find out whether a particular establishment offers visits or tastings.
