In Tiana, you can plan your trip around a range of interests: hiking in Parc de la Serralada de Marina, the town’s wine tradition, or its architectural and event history. If you are visiting for a particular festival, it is worth checking its date; if you want to focus on trails and local history, you will find several distinct options.

Hiking trails in Parc de la Serralada de Marina

Parc de la Serralada de Marina covers 3,032 hectares. This area includes parts of the municipal territories of Tiana, Badalona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Montcada i Reixac and Sant Fost de Campsentelles. Two of the named hikes follow the park’s paths and tracks, but differ in their stated length and difficulty.

La vall de Montalegre is a moderate hike, signposted as local trail SL-C 145. De Tiana al turó d'en Galceran is described as a long hike; it also follows the park’s paths and tracks. Its destination is one of the park’s highest points, and the route is marked SL-C 144. If you are choosing between these two trails, the descriptions “moderate” and “long” give you a clear basis for comparison, although they do not indicate how long the hikes take.

El Rocar offers a different type of route: the circular trail, signposted as SL-C 96, passes through the eastern part of the municipality of Tiana, along the Rocar ridge and into the area around Ermita Mare de Déu de l'Alegria. The three trails therefore have different features at their heart: difficulty, length or circular-route format, and the stated landscape or local landmarks.

Wine tradition and dates

Tiana has been associated with wine for centuries, and vineyards shape its landscape. At Celler Quim Batlle, vines are cultivated and organic white wines are produced under the D.O. Alella designation. Tast Tiana also highlights the town’s connection with food and wine: the event takes place on the weekend of the small Festa Major around 13 June. It is Tiana’s food and wine fair, attended by local restaurants and wineries from DO Alella.

Tast Tiana is a recurring event, but its exact dates and programme should be checked for the relevant year, so look up the date before planning your trip. This lets you time your stay to coincide with the event weekend, rather than treating the approximate period around 13 June as a fixed date.

Architecture and art in town

Ermita Mare de Déu de l'Alegria was once Tiana’s parish church and was consecrated in 1104. Its architectural features include a nave with side chapels, an apse in the central nave and an attached bell tower. Its former status and year of consecration give the church a distinct historical significance; it is also located near the circular El Rocar trail. The new temple of Parròquia de Sant Cebrià, consecrated on 22 June 1886, is a separate building.

Other landmarks in the town’s history have different points of interest. Sala Albéniz is a building in the Modernist style, inaugurated in 1911. The historic complex Font de Can Comes i safareigs públics has been preserved in Tiana. It comprises the spring and the public washhouses. The Jardins de Lola Anglada feature sculptures including “Família tornant del camp” and “Mare amb nen,” works in the realistic-naturalistic style by Lola Anglada. One of the gardens’ fountains also features a ceramic majolica illustrated by her.

Festivals and practical information

Aplec de l'Alegria takes place every Easter Monday and includes singing the Goigs de la Mare de Déu de l'Alegria. Check the local programme for the relevant year for this recurring tradition. Another seasonal offering is Nits de música al Jardí Lola Anglada: the concert series takes place every Thursday evening in July. If one of these events is important to your trip, check your planned stay against the relevant dates.

The park’s information point is on the ground floor of Observatori Astronòmic de Tiana. You can get information there about walking routes, as well as park publications and educational materials. Observatori Astronòmic de Tiana also offers a calendar of public observation sessions. Check the calendar if you would like to include a public observing session in your plans.
