Visitors to Torrelles de Foix can plan short nature outings, longer hikes and the various traces of the town’s history separately. Les Dous combines water features with a short walking trail. At the Santuari de Foix, panoramic views of the Penedès and two hikes of differing difficulty make for distinct highlights.

Trails, Water and Panoramic Views

Set on a hill, the Santuari de la Mare de Déu de Foix offers panoramic views of the Penedès. The challenging Ruta de les Gorgues de Foix starts here and is 8.51 kilometres long. Another option is the moderately difficult Torrelles – Santuari de Foix – Torrelles hiking route, which covers 11.94 kilometres. The stated difficulty and length help you gauge the scope of the two hikes; check current route conditions before setting out.

The 1,300-metre walking trail along the riera de Pontons to Les Dous covers less ground. The stream flows through a natural area characterised by 35 water fountains. A waterfall may also be visible there after rain or when water levels are high. This water feature is therefore dependent on certain conditions and cannot be expected on every visit.

For cycling, the gravel and road cycling variants of the Ruta 360Âş pass through the municipality. As the routes available may change, check the current route before setting out on a ride. The CamĂ Ramader de Marina, a transhumance trail of approximately 230 kilometres, is also a different scale of route that passes through Torrelles de Foix. Its total length and the short trail to Les Dous describe different types of routes, not the same hike.

Archaeology and Architectural History

The Jaciment de La Verna was inhabited in the late Iberian period and throughout the Roman era, from the 2nd century BCE to the 4th century CE. Its remains include a wine cellar and a fermentation vat. This time span places the site across several historical periods.

The architectural styles also differ considerably. The Castell de Foix is a medieval Romanesque castle dating from the 11th century; surviving sections of the walls are visible from the access path. A section of the manor house wall at Peguera measuring approximately 40 metres long and about 10 metres high remains. The Capella del Roser was blessed in 1579. This small building has a square floor plan and a rounded eastern end that slopes inward at the base. These features suggest that it may originally have served as a defensive structure.

The Església parroquial de Sant Genís was built in the 18th century to replace the former parish church of Santa Maria. Its rectangular nave has a single aisle; the barrel vault has lunettes, and there are four side chapels on each side. At El Rec, by contrast, the focus is on water engineering features: above-ground canal sections, underground tunnels and at least two surviving aqueducts or bridges.

Festivals and Practical Information

The Festa Major de Torrelles de Foix takes place on the weekend closest to 25 August. Festivities include a Correfoc, a mass in honour of Sant GenĂs and a procession featuring local giant figures, devils, drummers, Panderetes, Gitanes and Grallers. Check the specific festival dates before travelling. The Aplec de Foix programme includes a mass, a performance by the local Caramelles, Sardana dancing, paella and traditional games; individual events may vary.

Playful activities also add to the exploration: El joc dels VITIS begins an adventure at the Santuari de Foix through a QR code displayed there. Aigua d’en Ton is a playful activity that takes you around the municipality. Digital availability may change; if interested, check in advance whether these activities are currently available.

For motorhome travellers, the RV-Penedès motorhome stop in Torrelles de Foix has facilities for emptying grey and black water and refilling drinking water. As facilities and operating conditions may change, check before travelling there.
