Tavèrnoles lies in the eastern part of the Osona comarca, along the natural boundary between the plain and the Guilleries. A large part of the municipality belongs to the Guilleries-Savassona natural area. Visitors choosing the area for a stay will find both specific hiking options and buildings and archaeological evidence from widely differing periods.
Hiking trails and different routes
The PR-217 short-distance hiking trail, “Camins de Verdaguer,” passes through Folgueroles, Tavèrnoles and Sant Julià de Vilatorta. It can be started at the Centre d'Informació de Tavèrnoles. In November 2024, the Diputació de Barcelona announced that the FEEC had approved the trail as a short-distance hiking route. The SL-125 circular trail, “Sant Feliuet de Savassona,” also starts at the Centre d'Informació de Tavèrnoles.
The Sant Feliuet de Savassona circular hike is 6 km long and takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Another option leads from Tavèrnoles via Savassona to Sant Pere de Casserres: the route follows the PR C-40 and is 9 km one way. When comparing routes, note the difference between a circular route and a one-way route. Route details may change; check the local signs before setting out.
For another way to navigate, Tavèrnoles has a permanent orienteering course with 14 checkpoints of varying technical difficulty. For cyclists, the Tavèrnoles–Santa Magdalena de Conangle route has technically challenging sections; conditions may vary depending on the season.
Architectural history and archaeological traces
The present-day Església de Sant Esteve de Tavèrnoles dates from 1070. Sant Pere de Savassona is a Romanesque, single-nave building with a semicircular apse on the eastern side. Sant Feliuet de Savassona, in turn, is a pre-Romanesque monument dating from the 10th and 11th centuries. The three buildings offer different architectural and historical points of interest for visitors.
The archaeological sites of Savassona also tell of the area’s long history of settlement: the periods evidenced range from the Early and Middle Neolithic through the Chalcolithic and various phases of the Bronze Age to the Iron Age and the Iberian period. On the Pla de Savassona stands the Pedra de l'Home, a protected cultural asset of national interest (BCIN). Check the guidance on preserving this monument before visiting.
Local information and events
The Centre d'Informació de Tavèrnoles has information materials about the Guilleries-Savassona natural area and the permanent exhibition “Savassona, a gran escala.” The Centre also organizes guided visits around the village and its surroundings. Check opening hours and guided tour times before travelling.
The Festa Remença takes place in Tavèrnoles on the third weekend of October; check that year’s programme when planning your visit. At its sixth edition in 2025, the festival included a historical reenactment of the “Presa del Castell de Savassona.” Around 50 performers recreated real events that took place in Tavèrnoles at the end of the 15th century. The specific programme may change from one edition to the next.
For a dining option in the Guilleries, the Fussimanya restaurant is known for its homemade sausage and cured-meat platter with toasted coca torrada del mossèn. The dish may not always be available. This offers a way to combine a cultural or hiking day with a local food experience without requiring a fixed itinerary.
