The 1.2-kilometre Pedres i Versos circular trail runs through Taradell and brings together literary and cultural-historical themes. The PR-C 42 Sender de Taradell offers a different scale: it is 14.80 kilometres long, covers 380 metres of elevation gain and takes four and a half hours. These trail profiles can help you choose how to spend your days—from a short, easy loop to a longer hike with a stated duration and elevation gain.

Circular Trails and Views

The other routes also vary in length and character. Petjades de bandolers is a 5.9-kilometre circular trail of moderate difficulty. The Ruta del Castell is also a circular route: it starts in the centre of Taradell, passes through the eastern part of town and continues to Castell de Taradell. This offers a choice of trails with different focuses, from a literary and cultural-historical walk to a route with the castle as its destination.

On the PR-C 42, holm oak, oak and pine forests alternate with riverside vegetation along streams and small watercourses. The Mirador de l'Enclusa is a prominent landmark for far-reaching views: at 867 metres, it is the highest point in the municipality. From there, the view extends across the Plana de Vic, the Montseny Massif, Les Guilleries and the Pyrenees, as well as the castle and the town of Taradell. The views and changing vegetation offer two different perspectives on the landscape.

The Castle and Its History

Castell de Taradell, also known as Castell de Can Boix, is a medieval structure adapted to the rocky niche of the hill on which it was built. The castle is documented as far back as 893. The Campanar de Taradell provides another historical landmark: the Romanesque building, dating from the 11th century, was consecrated on 14 April 1076 together with the Romanesque church.

Other buildings reveal different periods and uses. Casal Mont-rodon retains a Romanesque section from the 12th century and was converted into a Gothic manor house in the early 14th century. La Cabanya de la Roca was built in the 18th century, when the region’s farmsteads specialised in grain production. At L'Alzinar de la Roca, a collection features more than 70 carriages, as well as various harnesses and agricultural tools. The Tonis de Taradell collected and restored these items.

Font Gran Park is also in a different part of the townscape: it is located in the lower part of Taradell, beside the Riera de Taradell. The fountain that gave the park its name was built in 1790. Its features include seven metal spouts and a stone lion’s head.

Festa dels Tonis and Local Traditions

The Festa dels Tonis de Taradell has been held every year since 1982 on the weekend before 17 January; 2002 was the only exception. The Passant dels tres tombs is its main event. The Festa also includes the Tast del porc: Botifarra sausage, bacon and slices of bread are cooked over the fires of Sant Antoni Abat and served with a little wine. If you would like to plan your stay around this tradition, check the current annual programme before travelling.

Another recurring event is the Fira de Santa LlĂşcia. It features stalls selling Christmas goods, along with music, crafts and artisan-made agricultural and food products. The Festa and the Fira showcase different aspects of local celebrations: the Festa dels Tonis combines a set weekend in January with its main event and a culinary tradition, while the Fira offers a varied range of stalls and activities. Check the current programme for each event before travelling if you are planning your visit around one of them.
