A 13th-century Romanesque statue of the Virgin Mary, paper mills dating back several centuries and fossils along the Muntaya dels Nens circular trail bring different features of La Pobla de Claramunt to the fore. When planning your trip, you can focus on local history, the landscape or a possible event date.

Church and Local History

The Església de la Mare de Déu de la Llet is neoclassical, yet the church also contains older works of art: a 13th-century Romanesque statue of the Mare de Déu de la Llet and a Gothic image of Sant Crist. The foundation stone was laid in July 1789, and the church was consecrated in September 1793.

Plaça de les Tres Fonts is one of the town’s most distinctive squares. After the flood of 1344 destroyed Pobla Vella, the first houses were built around the square. The restored Ajuntament Vell on Plaça de la Vila has three stone arches; today it houses the town library, the photo archive and the studios of Televisió la Pobla.

Cal Marí also links architectural history with the history of work in the town. The house was the ancestral home of the Coca family, who worked as farmers and paper-makers between the 13th and 18th centuries; it has Renaissance-style windows. The former public washhouse is in the historic centre, between Plaça de les Tres Fonts and the Subirats neighbourhood.

Paper Mills and Architecture

The dated examples range from Molí de Dalt de cal Coca, which dates to the 16th century, to mills from the 18th century. Molí de Dalt is one of the oldest mills in the les Figueres neighbourhood. Molí de l'Estrassa, also known as Colònia Vallès, acquired Modernist features during a renovation in the 1920s; its façade has a Modernist balcony with trencadís mosaic from that period. Molí de ca l'Almiralló also dates to the 18th century. Its features include perforated windows, typical of buildings of this kind.

Landscape and Trails

The natural surroundings of La Pobla de Claramunt include mountains and vegetation typical of a Mediterranean climate, including pine forests and extensive cultivated areas. The Ruta de la Muntaya dels Nens offers a closer look at the landscape and its geological features: this playful cultural circular trail comprises six areas along the route to Castell de Claramunt. There are places to rest, have breakfast, picnic and learn. The route also includes a traditional dry-stone farmhouse hut with a circular floor plan and a green roof.

Protected fossils embedded in the rock can also be seen on the Ruta de la Muntaya dels Nens; some are more than a handspan across. The Ruta dels Espais de Memòria de la Pobla de Claramunt focuses on a different aspect of history. It passes seven sites of remembrance in La Pobla de Claramunt and explores repression and violence in the Republican rear area.

Events at Castell de Claramunt

The Aplec del Castell takes place every year on 1 May at Castell de Claramunt. The programme includes a climb to the fortress, playful cultural activities for the whole family, and a shared breakfast and lunch. Anoia Folk is a traditional roots music festival held at the Castell on the second Saturday in July. If an event like this shapes your travel plans, confirm the exact dates for that year before travelling.

Castell de Claramunt is also home to the permanent exhibition “Arqueologia medieval a l'Anoia”. A notice dated 23 July 2026 reported that the fortress had been temporarily closed following a forest fire, while maintenance work and measures to improve access were being carried out. Check whether the Castell has reopened before visiting.
