The Riera de les Rovires is a distinctive natural feature of Pallejá: it is the only stream in the municipality that carries water almost all the time and has not been channelled along any stretch. Other attractions include historic buildings, archaeological finds and opportunities for activity along the riverbank. This allows you to shape your stay around different interests, from local history to birdwatching.
Masia, castle and traces of the past
The Masia Museu (Ca l'Albareda) was an important farmhouse in Pallejá. It was built by the Albareda de Dalt family in 1615. Today, the museum displays agricultural objects, including a grape press, the scales of the former Pallejá agricultural cooperative and two medium-capacity barrels. These items offer a tangible insight into the farmhouse’s agricultural past. The collection also includes archaeological finds dating from the Neolithic period to the Roman rule of the region. This means that agricultural objects and evidence of the region’s distant past can be found in the same museum.
The Castell de Pallejà tells a different architectural story: Ramon Martí de Torrelles and Fiveller de Palau built it in 1590 over a medieval castle. The two historical references are distinct: the Masia centres on the former farmhouse built in 1615, while the Castell also has a medieval predecessor. Those interested in architecture and the development of the town will find more than a single historical period here.
Puzzle trail and fossils
The “Els Enigmes de Pallejà” tourist trail presents the town’s architectural and historical heritage through QR codes and puzzles. It combines local history with an interactive way of learning about it. At the Pedreres de Pallejà, you can discover a different aspect of the surrounding area: among other things, there are numerous fossils of the snail species Strombus coronatus. Architecture, puzzles and fossils each offer a distinct focus, appealing to different interests rather than forming a single combined tour.
Water, plants and birdwatching
The Riera de les Rovires is also important for nature in the municipality. Its presence allows several plant communities to coexist and supports significant biodiversity among the local fauna. The Margalló (Chamaerops humilis) also grows in Les Planes. This species is the only palm native to Europe and thrives in dry coastal regions of the western Mediterranean. The two natural features are distinct: the Riera is associated with plant communities and wildlife, while the Margalló provides a specific botanical point of interest in Les Planes.
At Parc Fluvial del Llobregat, you can stroll along the riverbank, play sports and observe numerous bird species. Walking, exercise and nature watching are therefore different activities available side by side. Birdwatching is explicitly among the things the park offers along the riverbank; those who prefer to be active can play sports.
Climbing and event dates
Another option for physical activity is Rocòdrom Baix Llobregat, an indoor climbing centre with bouldering and rope-climbing areas and more than 500 m² of climbing surface. The two climbing formats and the stated area give a clear idea of what the centre offers. This distinguishes it from the activities along the riverbank, without combining the options into a set day’s itinerary.
Events can also play a part in planning your trip. Municipal festival and market listings, updated in 2024, mention scheduled events for Carnestoltes from Dijous Gras to Dimecres de Cendra. The Festa Major d’Hivern is listed as taking place around 12 February, while the Mercat de pagès is listed for September. If you are planning to visit specifically for a festival or market, check the dates for your intended travel period.
