Pont Vell dates back to the 14th century and is the oldest of the bridges that cross the Llobregat today. Together with the Jardins Artigas garden and the historic Tren del Ciment railway line, it adds a special cultural touch to a trip to La Pobla de Lillet. Marked trails and nearby buildings round out the itinerary.

Old Town, Bridge and Church Art

Explore the historic centre along a route with information panels. It leads, among other places, to Font d’en Güell, across Pont Vell and to Plaça de l’Ajuntament; further stops include the mural depicting the Carta de Poblament, Plaça del Molí, el Verger, Carrer Església and Plaça del Fort. The castle and church are also among the listed stops. Narrow, cobbled streets shape the townscape on Pujolet hill.

The Església Parroquial is home to two works: the Crist Majestat, a polychrome Romanesque wood carving from the 12th century, and the two-metre-high sculptural group Assumpció de la Verge by Frederic Marès. Nearby also stands the well-preserved Rotonda de Sant Miquel, a round church with a semicircular apse. There are few buildings of this kind.

Garden Art and Industrial History

The visitor route through Jardins Artigas passes a waterfall, an artificial cave with catenary arches, springs and two stone bridges. Other points of interest include a square and the Glorieta viewpoint. The garden is based on a design by Antoni Gaudí for the Artigas family, after they had shown him hospitality. The garden’s design and the story of its creation thus go hand in hand.

The Tren del Ciment also offers a glimpse into another chapter of the town’s history. The historic railway line connected the former Asland cement factory in Castellar de n’Hug with Guardiola de Berguedà. The Tren del Ciment runs for 3.5 kilometres and stops at four stations. At the former railway station in La Pobla de Lillet, you can visit the exhibition “Ferrocarrils secundaris, industrials i turístics a la vall del Llobregat”. The tourist office is also located at the station and sells tickets for Jardins Artigas and the Tren del Ciment. Two free parking spaces are available there for Tren del Ciment customers.

Marked Trails and Nearby Destinations

The Xarxa de Camins currently comprises four marked routes of low difficulty. Each route includes information about sights, as well as downloadable links to the routes on Wikiloc. Route information and files may change, so check the latest details before setting out.

The Camí de les Sequoies starts at Plaça de l’Ajuntament and follows marked trails towards the Ventaiola forest. Along the way, the route passes Font del Roure, which is considered a point of interest and recommended for a drinking-water stop. The sequoias, the destination, are 200 metres from Casa Ventaiola. The Ruta de les Fonts takes a different approach: it includes Font del Güell beside Pont Vell, surrounded by lime trees.

Near La Pobla de Lillet, Santuari de Falgars stands at an altitude of 1,288 metres, seven kilometres from La Pobla de Lillet. It can be reached via a paved road, whose condition may change. Check the latest road information before setting out. For centuries, the Santuari has been a place of pilgrimage for residents and neighbours of the region, as well as people from further afield. Also nearby, in the forests of the Serra del CatllarĂ s, is Xalet del CatllarĂ s. Antoni GaudĂ designed Xalet del CatllarĂ s in 1902. At present, the Xalet can only be viewed from the outside due to restoration work inside. Check the latest access information before visiting.
