The ruins of Castell de Dosrius stand on a hill near the village; the restored Camí Ral connects Dosrius with Canyamars. There are also churches, recurring traditions and a range of activities. This brings cultural history and outdoor pursuits together when planning a trip.

Cultural history between the castle and churches

Castell de Dosrius lies at an altitude of 295 metres. The earliest documents mentioning the ruins date from 1114 and 1128.

The historic centre developed around the parish church of Sant Iscle i Santa Victòria. It has been documented since 1304 and was expanded in the 16th century. Sant Esteve de Canyamars is also historically connected to it: the church is first directly documented in 1324, when it is named as a filial church of Sant Iscle i Santa Victòria de Dosrius in the Diocese of Barcelona.

The religious history also includes the Ermita de Sant Llop, a chapel built in 1740 under the patronage of Sant Llop, the co-patron saint of Dosrius. The founding of the Santuari del Corredor is attributed to Salvi Arenes. Apparently, around 1530, with the bishop’s express permission, he built a chapel on Corredor Mountain in honour of Nostra Senyora del Socors. The account as passed down deliberately leaves this attribution as a possibility.

Another archaeological landmark is the Cova Sepulcral de la Costa de Can Martorell, also known as Cova de la Vinya d'en Tit. The site, more than 4,000 years old, was a collective burial place dating to the Chalcolithic period.

Festivals and recurring traditions

The traditional sardana-related Aplec de muntanya de Canyamars takes place on the second weekend of September. It includes sardana dancing, invited coblas and the traditional communal supper known as Mongetada popular. If you would like to plan your trip around this date, check the event dates in advance.

The Aplec de Sant Llop takes place on 1 September, when traditional protective rolls are blessed. The Plantada del Maig takes place in Plaça de Catalunya, in front of Dosrius Town Hall. These occasions have different focuses: one centres on sardana dancing and a communal meal, while the other features the blessing of the rolls or a named location in the town centre.

Trails between Dosrius and Canyamars

The restored Camí Ral connects Dosrius with Canyamars; restoration work was completed in November 2019. The trail crosses almost level terrain and retains the Sauló surface typical of the area. For planning purposes, both the connection between the two places and the character of the trail are relevant. It is a good idea to check the current trail conditions before setting out.

Another option is the mountain bike ride to the Pou de Glaç de Canyamars. It is rated as low difficulty and runs mostly along tracks. The trails described therefore have distinct features: the Camí Ral is notable for connecting the two places and its nearly level route, while the ride to the Pou de Glaç involves cycling on tracks and has a stated difficulty level.

Activities in the area

Bosc Vertical-Dosrius has four courses with more than 80 activities of varying difficulty. Features include zip lines up to 110 metres long, 22-metre-long lianas, bridges, tunnels, walkways and nets. The range extends from individual obstacles to several courses; not all activities require a particular difficulty level.

Rukimon – Rucs del Corredor is in the Canyamars valley (Dosrius), in the Parc Natural del Montnegre-Corredor. All the donkey breeds of the Iberian Peninsula live together in the park. Rukimon offers family donkey rides, walking opportunities and routes for children. This is a different focus from the courses at Bosc Vertical-Dosrius: here, the activities on offer centre on donkeys, walking and routes for children.

Landscape setting

Beyond Dosrius, the Parc del Montnegre i el Corredor provides a regional landscape setting. On the coastal side, extensive forests of Aleppo pine alternate with holm oak, oak and cork oak forests in the interior of the massif. The varied landscape also includes cultivated areas, woodlands and farmsteads. The contrast between the coastal side and the massif’s interior thus brings different types of forest together in a shared regional setting.
