The Plaza de la Luz in Los Silos features colourful gardens and is considered a historic and popular landmark of the town. Culture and Architectural History
The Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Luz dates from the mid to late 16th century. Its Neo-Gothic façade, with a central bell tower, was added later. Among the church’s historic religious artworks is the image of Señor de la Humildad y la Paciencia, dating from the mid-17th century. This building brings together several different periods.
The Antiguo Convento de San Sebastián in Los Silos was founded in 1649 and has been restored. Today, it houses the public library, an exhibition space and the visitor centre. The Centro de InformaciĂłn TurĂstica de Los Silos provides information about the municipality’s historic and natural heritage. Hiking and Coastal Experiences
The PR-TF 53 “Los Silos – Cuevas Negras – Erjos” is an officially approved, moderately difficult, linear hiking trail covering 5.7 kilometres. It passes through Cuevas Negras and the Barranco de El Salto, reaching Los Silos via Calle Susana. Check trail conditions and access before setting out.
The Sendero de Cuevas Negras also has a historical role: it once served as a connecting route between Los Silos and Santiago del Teide. Later, it became the Camino Real, linking Los Silos with Erjos. This former function differs from today’s route on the PR-TF 53 and its designated course.
The seabed in the municipality offers opportunities for diving and snorkelling; before taking part, check sea conditions and the local availability of activities. Costa de Los Silos also has a beach with pebbles at the outer end and a completely sandy seabed. It is suitable for swimming, especially during the summer months. Events and Local Produce
Two recurring events mark different times of the year. Festival Boreal takes place every September in Los Silos. Its programme includes participatory environmental and cultural activities, including turtle releases, recycling workshops, concerts, markets and an ecotourism fair. The Festival Internacional del Cuento de Los Silos has been held every December since 1996. Check the dates and programmes for each event when planning your visit.
The Mercadillo del Agricultor de Los Silos also follows a set weekly schedule: local produce is sold there, and the market is open on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. As opening hours may change, check them before your visit.
Getting There and Getting Around
The TF-42 is the main northern access road to Los Silos. It connects Icod de los Vinos with Buenavista del Norte and runs through the municipality. Several TITSA bus routes connect Los Silos with municipalities in northern Tenerife and with Puerto de la Cruz. If you are planning to travel by bus, check the appropriate connections and timetables before your trip; you should also check road conditions in advance.
Guided tours of the historic centre are available for groups of 15 or more. Advance booking through the Los Silos visitor centre is required. This makes it easy to plan the visit as part of your trip.
