From its summit plateau, panoramic views extend across the coasts of Adeje, Arona, San Miguel and Granadilla de Abona, as well as parts of Guía de Isora and Santiago del Teide.

Architectural history and cultural heritage

Casa Fuerte was built in 1556 and served for three centuries as the political, economic and social centre of the jurisdiction of Adeje. It is associated with the Adeje sugar factory, whose construction began under Pedro de Ponte in 1554. The dates mark two different historical milestones: the start of construction of the factory and the building of Casa Fuerte.

The Franciscan monastery of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y San Pablo can also be traced through several dates. In 1986, it was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Monument category. It was restored in 1991 and opened to the public as the Museo de Arte Sacro in May 1995. This opening describes its public use at the time. The Iglesia de Santa Úrsula has its origins in a chapel dedicated to Saint Ursula, dating from the first half of the 16th century, and was one of the first religious buildings in southern Tenerife. Its two naves were built in different periods. Other architectural details include an interior roof structure in the Mudéjar style, sgraffito on parts of the exterior walls and a bell gable. A small pedestal with the head of an idol sits in its centre. The building offers a chance to see both different construction phases and specific design features.

Another historical detail is the public Fuente de los Tres Chorros, built in 1890 on Calle de Los Molinos. The name “Ruta del Agua” refers to the historic route taken by water from the Barranco del Infierno, via the fountains and canals of Adeje’s town centre, to the sea.

Festivals as a guide to when to travel

Semana Santa de Adeje takes place every year and showcases religious, artistic and cultural heritage. The Romería de Adeje is celebrated every October, when music, colour and Canarian traditions fill the municipality’s historic centre. October is therefore a specific time to keep in mind for the Romería, while the two festivals represent different traditions. Responsible whale- and dolphin-watching excursions depart from Puerto Colón in the municipality. They include an introduction to the marine environment and refreshments.
