The GR-105 Ruta de las Peregrinaciones passes through the hamlet of L’Escobal. The stage that crosses the village is 16.4 kilometres long and rated easy; five hours of walking time are given for the one-way route. This time therefore does not automatically include a return journey, and your own pace may differ. Conditions may vary depending on the season. Check local trail conditions before setting out. The easy rating describes the difficulty; the five hours indicate the time required.

Forest, spring and route of the stage

Beyond L’Escobal, the GR-105 passes very close to the La Pedrera spring. The section through Escobal leads into a forest of chestnut trees and scattered oaks. After this wooded stretch, the route descends to the hamlet of Llamuñu. This means the route can be understood in terms of more than just its stage length: the transition from the hamlet into the forest and the subsequent descent are also part of its described course.

A different hiking landscape in Bimenes

La Cruz (Campabaxera) is a mountain recreation area at Alto de la Cruz in Bimenes. It lies on a hill about 400 metres above sea level and rich in heather. The area offers access to hiking, a spring, road access and a car park. Its landscape therefore differs from the forest section of the GR-105: here, heather is a defining feature of the description.

The practical details given also differ. For the GR-105, the focus is on stage length, walking time and route. For La Cruz, hiking access, road access and a car park are mentioned. If you are choosing between these landscape options, consider whether you are looking for a specific stage or a mountain recreation area with the listed facilities.

Water and Asturian milling tradition

The Senda de los Molinos de Bimenes is a walking trail where you can discover part of the water-related ethnographic heritage of the municipality of Bimenes. It runs through a native Asturian forest of chestnut trees, hazels, oaks and holly trees. Compared with the GR-105 section through Escobal, which passes through a forest of chestnut trees and scattered oaks, hazels and holly trees also feature here.

The restored Molín de Milio illustrates the Asturian milling tradition through its tools and mechanisms. The trail and mill therefore have a different focus from the stage through L’Escobal: alongside the forest, they highlight water-related heritage and the work of millers. This is a useful distinction when choosing between a route, a landscape and cultural history.
