Six spouts feed the stone basin of the Fuente complex, whose Renaissance arch has a depressed profile. In Siétamo, the Iglesia de San Vicente, Casa Grande and trenches on a hill add to the picture. The range therefore extends from specific architectural features to a historical trace in the landscape. If you are planning a stay, these different interests can help you decide whether Siétamo fits your cultural and landscape itinerary.

Church on the main square

The Iglesia de San Vicente stands on the main square beside the town hall and was built in 1572 by master builder Martín de Zabala. Its rectangular floor plan comprises a single nave and side chapels, ending in a semicircular apse. The tower stands at the southwest corner, at the foot of the church building. A single nave refers to the main interior space; side chapels are smaller spaces arranged along its sides. The church can therefore be viewed from two perspectives: its specific construction date and builder, and the building’s spatial layout.

Fountain, Casa Grande and protected heritage

The Fuente complex consists of a fountain, a livestock trough and a washhouse. The fountain has a Renaissance arch with a depressed arch profile and a stone basin fed by six spouts. It follows a building typology that originated in the 16th century. Comparing the different parts of the complex reveals different scales: the arch and basin describe the fountain, while the livestock trough and washhouse are two further independent components.

Casa Grande provides a different architectural accent. Built in 1692, it is a four-storey building made of dressed ashlar, with partially plastered façades. This places a multi-part complex with a typology rooted in the 16th century alongside a single building dating from 1692. The difference is not just a matter of age: at the fountain, the arch profile and the components of the complex take center stage; at Casa Grande, it is the number of storeys and the façade surface.

Castillo del conde de Aranda is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Monument category. Alongside the architectural forms and materials of the church, Fuente and Casa Grande, this brings another aspect of cultural heritage into focus: the castle’s formal protected status.

Trenches in the landscape

The trenches of Siétamo are located on the summit of a hill above the national highway between Huesca and Barbastro. Here, the site’s setting shapes the choice of what to see more than any single architectural detail. Access is via a signposted path outside the town; you can then leave your car and reach the hill on foot. Allow time for the walk and check local access conditions before your visit.
