Relocated buildings and the Church of the Assumption
The Batán de Lacort was moved from Lacort to Fiscal. Its machinery is housed in a small building at the entrance to the town, near the river and the medieval bridge. A water channel allows the machinery to operate. Both its origins and its current location are part of the Batán’s history: it comes from Lacort and is now in Fiscal. The connection between the water channel and the machinery is also a distinctive technical detail.
The Church of the Assumption in Fiscal has a defensive tower dating from the 16th century, with Gothic windows and arrow slits. Its richly sculpted south portal has a classically influenced architectural design. The tower and portal show two different aspects of church architecture: the tower’s defensive function stands alongside the design of the entrance.
The Pórtico de Jánovas, a late Romanesque portal, stands right next to the church. It was moved from Jánovas to Fiscal to preserve it. The relocated buildings therefore have different stories: the Batán’s origins in Lacort are part of its history, while preservation was the reason for moving the Pórtico. Festival, hiking trails and activities on the Ara
The festival in honour of Our Lady of the Assumption takes place in Fiscal from 13 to 15 August. It includes daytime events as well as evening orchestra performances and shows, mainly in the church square. The exact programme may vary. The fishing stretch is a separate matter: in the 2025 season fishing plan, a stretch of the Ara in Fiscal between Puente Viejo de Fiscal and Pasarela de Lacort was designated as such.
