Serveto combines architectural history in the town centre with hiking routes through the village and across named terrain features. The Church of San Félix stands on Plaza Mayor; hiking trails lead, among other places, via Sin, Plan, the Barranco de Feneplán and El Collet. When planning your trip, it is worth choosing a focus: would you like to learn about historic architectural styles and the history of communal land use, or set aside time for a stage or a circular hike? When looking for a holiday apartment for your trip to Serveto, you can match these themes to your own travel plans.
The Church of San Félix and its architectural features
The Church of San Félix stands in the centre of Serveto on Plaza Mayor. It was built between the 16th and 17th centuries. On the south side is a pointed-arch entrance with four moulded round shafts; the church also features a relief depicting a Maltese cross. A pointed arch describes an opening that narrows towards the top, while round shafts are rounded, moulded architectural elements. The cross appears as a relief and provides a distinct visual motif alongside the shape of the entrance. Visitors interested in architecture can consider the period, form and craftsmanship as separate details.
La Comuna and the history of communal land
The Ermita de Santa LucĂa was the meeting place of La Comuna, also known as Comuna del Traseto or Traseto de Baldexistau. La Comuna administered the extensive shared territory of the villages of Sin, Señés and Serveto and regulated their grazing lands and forest resources. Santa LucĂa is the specific meeting place in this history; La Comuna represents the communal administration. The village’s history therefore encompasses not only individual buildings, but also the organisation of shared land and its associated resources.
Traces at Casa Buil
The date 1682 is carved into the lintel of a window at Casa Buil. It marks a dated detail on the window, not necessarily the construction year of the entire house. Casa Buil also appears to have a particularly finely built bread oven; its opening is said to have faced the kitchen. Casa Buil thus brings together a precisely dated architectural detail and a tentative interpretation of the oven.
Hiking: a stage or a loop
The second stage of the GR 19 runs from GistaĂn via Serveto and Sin to Salinas de Sin; it is 13.5 kilometres long. The Plan–GistaĂn–Serveto–El Collet–Plan circular hiking route follows a different itinerary, leading to Serveto via the fields of Feneplan. The section from Serveto runs through the lower part of the village and follows the PR-HU 37 towards Plan. Along the way, you cross the Barranco de Feneplán and climb to El Collet.
The difference matters when choosing a hiking day: the GR 19 stage ends at Salinas de Sin and has a stated distance; the other route is a circular hike that names Plan, GistaĂn, Serveto and El Collet along its course. Trail conditions can vary seasonally. Therefore, check the condition of the trail before setting out.
