Estadilla combines distinctive architectural and cultural landmarks with routes that focus on water, horticulture and birdwatching. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Estadilla, you can tailor your stay to these interests: local history and rock art, a circular route along irrigation channels and cascades, or a route with birdwatching.

Local history among arcades and rock art

The Plaza Mayor is lined with arcades. The Renaissance-style town hall stands there, designed like an Aragonese palace from the 16th century. Another notable landmark is the Fuente de los Doce Caños: built in 1735, it has twelve spouts from which water flows through lions’ mouths. The Gothic parish church stands on the site of a former castle, of which some sections of wall remain.

Today’s Santuario de la Carrodilla also combines different building phases. Judging from the surviving architectural features, it was built between the 14th and 15th centuries. It consists of a nave with eight chapels added later. Two different designations are given for the rock art sites: Forau del Cocho, also known as Cueva de La Carrodilla, is included in the Aragonese list of caves and rock shelters with rock art classified as Assets of Cultural Interest. Abrigo del Engardaixo is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Rock Art of the Mediterranean Basin on the Iberian Peninsula.

Routes with distinct focuses

The Ruta del Agua is an easy circular route through the huertas of Estadilla. It follows the watercourse to the former Baños de Estadilla, runs alongside old irrigation channels, and passes small waterfalls and cascades. The route therefore focuses on the watercourse and the irrigated landscape.

The Ruta Ornitológica starts at the Fuente de los Doce Caños and forms a circular route through a variety of paths and landscape areas. It also passes through Estadilla’s fruit-growing and horticultural areas, where 30 nest boxes for different species have been installed and which are used for birdwatching. The two circular routes thus have different themes: the Ruta del Agua follows the water, while the Ruta Ornitológica focuses on observation in the huertas. The long-distance hiking routes GR 18 and GR 45 also pass through Estadilla.

Views and landscape

The 1,108-metre-high Pico Buñero offers views of the Cinca and Ésera valleys, the Pyrenean peaks of Ribagorza and Sobrarbe, the Sierra de Guara and the Somontano. The Sierra de la Carrodilla lies at the foot of the Pre-Pyrenees and is known for its diverse flora and fauna and exceptionally beautiful natural landscapes. A protected area also contributes to Estadilla’s natural heritage: the municipality is part of the Site of Community Importance (SCI) LIC Ríos Cinca y Alcanadre, covering an area of 53.53 hectares.

Plan your visit and journey

Local residents take part in more than thirty scenes during the Belén Viviente in late December. If you plan to include this event in your trip, check the specific event dates.

According to municipal access information, the bus station in Barbastro is 12 km from Estadilla; MonzĂłn-RĂo Cinca railway station is listed as 20 km away. Check connections and transport arrangements before departure. This will help you plan your journey around the available connections and tailor your stay to the cultural and natural attractions that interest you most.
