Ukanc is designated as a bathing area on Lake Bohinj and is located in Triglav National Park. From here, a cable car takes you to the Vogel ski resort; electric boats operate on the lake, and the Zlatorog Fairy Tale Trail runs through Ukanc. This combination of natural surroundings, rides and a story-themed trail makes Ukanc a place where a stay can offer different highlights.

A bathing area in the national park

The bathing area near Ukanc is located in Triglav National Park, where rules apply to protect nature. Its designation as a bathing area is fixed, but water conditions and visitor information can change. Check the latest information before swimming. The area’s permanent designation and the conditions on a specific swimming day are two separate points to consider when planning. So take both into account when setting aside time by the water.

Across the lake by electric boat

The electric boats Zlatorog and Triglavska roĹľa operate on Lake Bohinj in both directions between RibÄŤev Laz and Ukanc. The route therefore has two specific endpoints; when planning your day, consider which direction you want to travel. Services and timetables can change. Check the timetable if you are planning a crossing, and bear in mind that the boat route across the lake is a different kind of journey from the cable car to Vogel.

The lake connection also has a historical perspective: in 1910, the boat Bogomila began regular service, carrying people from RibÄŤev Laz to Ukanc twice a day. This historical frequency is not a current timetable. While Bogomila travelled in the direction mentioned at the time, the electric boats operate in both directions. For a current crossing, refer to the electric boat timetable.

Take the cable car to Vogel

From Ukanc, visitors can take the cable car to the mountain station of the Vogel ski resort. From there, a four-seat chairlift goes to Orlove glave. The journey therefore consists of two sections: first the cable car, then the chairlift. Vogel offers panoramic rides in other seasons. Cable car services may vary depending on the season and maintenance; weather and lift availability affect onward travel. Before your trip, check which rides are available at the time of your visit.

Zlatorog Fairy Tale Trail in Ukanc

The official Zlatorog Fairy Tale Trail in Ukanc has seven stations. Figures from local fairy tales can be seen along the trail, and the activities are designed to engage all seven senses. In this way, the stories are brought together with an experience that goes beyond the figures to include sensory activities. The trail starts on the grounds of the Bohinj campsite. As visitor facilities may be relocated or temporarily restricted, check the latest access information before your visit.

Different outings, different plans

The practical considerations differ depending on the outing: for the boat route, direction of travel and timetable matter; at Vogel, lift services depend on the season and weather. The Fairy Tale Trail offers something different: seven stations, figures from local fairy tales and activities for all seven senses. If you are considering Ukanc as a holiday destination, you can choose what to focus on each day and check the relevant operating or access information.
