In Preserje, cultural history and a variety of trails come together: the Church of St. Vitus represents a distinctive architectural theme, while the Planinska obhodnica Pentlja passes through the village and the Pot na Mah circular trail forms its own loop. The Pentlja is divided into 18 sections; Pot na Mah is 3.8 kilometers long. This makes the cultural site and the two trail options distinct highlights to consider during a stay.

Church of St. Vitus: Architectural Design and Paintwork

The Church of St. Vitus is a centrally planned Baroque building dating from 1711 and is protected as a cultural monument of local significance. The reasons for its protection include its historical, art-historical and architectural, as well as ethnological significance. The nave is octagonal, as is the presbytery, which is of equal height. Dome roofs and a bell tower on the north side are also part of the building's design.

The paintwork dates from later years and can be attributed to specific parts of the building. Janez Ĺ ubic painted the presbytery dome in 1870 and the nave walls in 1871. In 1910, Trpin painted the nave dome. Thus, the church is associated with both its construction date of 1711 and several different dates for its paintwork.

The Preserje Parish Barn

The parish barn is another architectural feature. It is built of rubble stone and has brick rosettes on its gables. Both floors have vaulted ceilings. There are also small granary windows with wrought-iron grilles. In the raised cellar or storage area, there is a wrought-iron gate bearing the year 1837. These details are found on different parts of the building: rubble stone defines the structure, the rosettes are on the gables, and the gate and window grilles feature wrought-iron elements.

Pentlja and Pot na Mah

The Planinska obhodnica Pentlja is marked throughout with the Knafelc blaze and the Pentlja's horizontal figure-eight symbol. It passes through Preserje, where it meets the hiking trail from Preserje to the railway station, and then continues towards Kamnik. Both the trail markers and the described route are relevant for navigation along the way. Check trail conditions locally.

The Pot na Mah circular trail starts at Goričica pod Krimom 29, 1352 Preserje. It is 3.8 kilometers long and suitable for hiking or cycling. There are seven information stations along the trail. At Goriški mah, there are bicycle racks and benches; further benches are located at the birdwatching station and the outdoor classroom. Some facilities may be modified, so if needed, check the current amenities before your visit.
