Vojsko combines cultural history with a karst landscape. The Slovenija Partisan Printing Press and the Church of St. Joseph represent different historical themes; high-altitude meadows, viewpoints, and the GaÄŤnik Gorge offer further perspectives on nature. If you are looking for a hotel in Vojsko, start by choosing according to the focus of your stay: cultural history, landscape, or a specific activity.

Cultural history in two forms

The Slovenija Partisan Printing Press is fully preserved and has been open to visitors as a cultural and historical monument since 1947. With the help of the caretaker, visitors can print a souvenir sheet. This makes printing tangible not only as part of history, but also as a practical activity.

The Church of St. Joseph in Vojsko is believed to have been completed in 1669. Its furnishings include two side altars and a main altar dedicated to St. Joseph. Also featured are ceiling frescoes, rediscovered in 1983, and a relief-style Stations of the Cross. The dates refer to different events: the presumed completion of the church and the rediscovery of the frescoes.

Karst plateau, meadows, and water

Vojsko is a sparsely populated karst plateau in the Idrija Hills. The plateau has pristine high-altitude meadows, rich in flowers and home to a wide variety of medicinal plants. Smrekova draga is part of the Golaki Forest Reserve and has an inverted vegetation distribution. The area’s natural features thus include both the meadows’ plant life and a distinctive distribution of vegetation.

The views also encompass different points of reference. From the Hudournik viewpoint, the view stretches across the Idrija Fault Zone to Most na SoÄŤi, as well as to the Julian and Kamnik Alps, including Triglav. From the plateau, views extend from Triglav to SneĹľnik.

The Gačnik Gorge has rapids, ravines, and pools. The Gačnik stream plunges over the Gačniško stopnišče, a series of fourteen waterfalls. The gorge and the series of waterfalls provide two specific opportunities to explore the course of the stream and the landscape.

Plan your journey and activities

From Idrija, the easiest way to reach the Slovenija Partisan Printing Press is via a 14 km road to Vojsko; from there, two paths lead to the printing press. Route No. 4 starts at the Church of St. Joseph in Vojsko and is an easy 26.5 km cycling route. This gives you a choice of both a specifically described way to reach the printing press and a designated cycling route.

In winter, cross-country ski trails run through the plateau’s rugged landscape. Whether they are usable during your chosen period depends on snow conditions. Access and route details may change; check the latest information before your visit or bike ride.
