A water mill on a river branch, a chapel dating from 1927 and cycling routes with specified lengths give Dunajský Klátov several points of interest for a stay. Cultural history, waterscapes and cycling can be explored as distinct themes. The water mill and the Klátovské rameno are particularly closely connected, with the river branch providing the geographical setting for several local attractions.
Water Mill and Waterscape
The Dunajský Klátov water mill is a monument of cultural and technical heritage on the bank of the Klátovské rameno, in the cadastral area of the municipality of Dunajský Klátov. It is also one of the sites of the Žitnoostrovské Museum. The mill houses a permanent exhibition on milling, with original equipment. Its heritage status, museum location and exhibition combine technical heritage with a concrete insight into milling.
As part of the 2016 reconstruction, an observation platform was built on the opposite bank of the Klátovské rameno. The mill and platform are therefore on opposite sides of the watercourse; their position across from one another clearly distinguishes the two structures.
A Building with a Local History
The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (“Narodenia panny Márie”) was built in 1927 and is the oldest building in Dunajský Klátov. Its year of construction provides a chronological reference point for the town’s history; its status as the oldest building also makes it a distinct cultural attraction. By contrast, the mill is notable for its waterside setting, technical function and exhibition on milling. Visitors interested in the cultural side of the town can thus explore two different themes: the chapel’s architectural history and the mill’s technical heritage.
Cycling Routes by Length and Route
The cycling connections differ in length and route. Section VII/2 of the Malé Dvorníky–Dunajský Klátov cycle route is 6.1 km long. Its completed section runs from the centre of Malé Dvorníky to the cadastral boundary of Dunajský Klátov; from there, the signposted cycle route continues into the municipality along a lower-order road. Main cycle route IX is 14 km long and runs from Kútniky via Trhová Hradská, Horné Mýto and Ohrady Ostrov to Dunajský Klátov. In a direct comparison of lengths, IX is more than twice as long as VII/2. Those choosing by stated distance can compare the shorter route section with the longer main route; the places named for each route also differ.
Birdlife at the Klátovské rameno
The Klátovské rameno is a right-bank tributary of the Little Danube and flows through the cadastral area of Dunajský Klátov. About 80 bird species have been recorded in the area, of which about 70 nest there. These approximate figures add a natural-history perspective to the mill site and refer to the watercourse.
