The Rokoš rock landscape, a late Romanesque church building and traditional folk culture offer different ways to experience Diviaky Nad Nitricou during a stay. You can get to know the place through its protected nature, architectural history, archaeological traces, or cultural and equestrian activities. When looking for a holiday apartment, it is worth first deciding which of these aspects will be the focus of your trip.

Rokoš Landscape and Protected Areas

The foothills of the Rokoš Mountains extend into the area of Diviaky Nad Nitricou. The Rokoš National Nature Reserve lies above the village and covers more than 460 hectares. The landscape of the Rokoš foothills includes dolomite and limestone cliffs above the Rudnianska Valley. This brings together a large protected landscape and striking rock formations; both shape the destination’s connection with nature.

Part of the Strážovské vrchy in the cadastral area of Diviaky Nad Nitricou, within the Rokoš Mountains, has been protected since 1974. If you would like to include the protected areas in your visit, check their boundaries and current access rules in advance.

Church and Archaeological History

The Roman Catholic church in Diviaky Nad Nitricou is late Romanesque and has two towers; three Romanesque windows date from the mid-13th century. The building was partly Baroque in style in the 18th century, and the church is dedicated to All Saints. The building thus combines a late Romanesque origin with a later Baroque alteration. Its Romanesque form and partial renovation represent two distinct historical phases.

The history of the village reaches further back than the church. Its archaeological heritage includes the Lusatian culture of the Late Bronze Age, dated to around 1200 BC. The cemetery in Diviaky Nad Nitricou is also one of the richest archaeological burial grounds in the Horná Nitra region. These connections extend the historical timeframe from the Late Bronze Age to the church’s construction in the 13th century.

Folklore and Mačov

Since 1994, the Bukovec folklore group has worked on folk customs, songs and traditions, preserving and presenting the traditions of its region. It performs in its municipality and at festivals in Slovakia and abroad. If you would like to attend a performance, check the specific event dates before booking.

In the village district of Mačov, the permanent exhibition “Deväť zastavení v Mačove” opened to visitors on 26 April 2014 as part of an open-air museum. If you would like to visit the exhibition, check in advance whether access is available during your visit.

Horse Riding as a Reason to Visit

The Hipo Mačov equestrian complex is located in Mačov. It offers recreational and therapeutic riding under the guidance of experienced instructors. Experienced riders can also go on rides through the surrounding forests and hills with Hipo Mačov. This means there are supervised riding activities as well as an option for experienced riders to go on a ride. Check current dates in advance if riding is to determine when you stay.

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide on your focus: nature and protected areas, church and archaeological history, folklore or horse riding. Then compare specific options to see whether their location and conditions suit your travel plans.
