Ráztočno combines distinctive landscape features with two different hiking options and a specific church history. The village lies in the Handlová foothills of the Upper Nitra Basin, at the southwestern foot of the Žiar Mountains and in the valley of the Handlovka stream. When planning, it is worth considering the respective starting and ending points: a blue-marked route connects Ráztočno with Sklené, while a shorter hike leads from Remata to Bralová skala. Viewpoints, cycling routes and the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary round out the selection.

Viewpoints and Hájska skala

The rock viewpoint Hájska skala lies along the blue-marked trail towards Ráztočno; from there, you can enjoy views of the villages in the Handlová Valley. The eponymous publicly accessible cave lies below Hájska skala. Conditions in the cave can vary. In favorable weather, Bralová skala offers views of the town of Handlová, the Turiec Basin, as well as the Little Fatra, Kremnica Mountains and Vtáčnik. While Hájska skala looks out over the villages in the Handlová Valley, the view from Bralová skala also takes in the Turiec Basin and several mountain ranges.

Hiking and cycling

A 2017 municipal tourism strategy lists a 9 km blue-marked route between Ráztočno and Sklené. Check the current trail markings and conditions before setting out. From Remata near Ráztočno, a moderately difficult hike marked red and yellow leads to Bralová skala; it is 1.6 km long and takes about 45 minutes. Check the trail conditions before setting out here, too. The difference is practical: Ráztočno–Sklené connects two villages over 9 km, while the shorter route from Remata also provides a difficulty rating and an approximate duration. This lets you match the hiking portion to the time available and the distance you want to cover.

The Bojnický cyklookruh and Rematská spojka cycling routes pass through the municipality’s cadastral area. The Bojnický cycling route runs between Remata and Nedožery-Brezany via Ráztočno. Since trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check the current route before setting out.

Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and its sundials

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was originally built as an early Gothic church between 1280 and 1300. Vertical sundials are located on its south wall, with a dial divided into whole hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. They were probably created around 1667. This distinguishes the dates of the original building and the sundials: the church dates to the late 13th century, while the clocks probably belong to a later period in its history. For travelers interested in architecture and historical timekeeping, the church thus offers two specific points of interest.

Event and rail travel

The Beh SNP race takes place in Ráztočno every year, with international participation. If you would like to plan your stay around it, check the date of that year’s event before traveling. For train travelers, ticket sales are relevant: a municipal webpage published in 2023 names Ráztočno and Remäta as the only two stops on the Prievidza–Horná Štubňa line without ticket sales. Check the current rail regulations before traveling.
