A fossilized fragment of a tree estimated to be 22 million years old and a 13-kilometer educational trail show two different sides of Svit: geological features and a route through the historic district and out into the surrounding area. Other attractions have their own focus, from protected natural areas and cycling and inline skating routes to winter sports and architectural history.

Geology and nature around Svit

The Svit Geopark displays 43 rocks from the local area and beyond. Alongside the fossilized tree fragment, they offer a striking contrast between a single, very ancient trace and a collection of regional rocks. Students can also take part in a hands-on geological activity: they can compare a map featuring rocks from across Slovakia and touch rock samples.

The 205-hectare Baba Nature Reserve lies near Svit. It protects rare plant and animal communities on dolomitic ground. A four-kilometer educational trail is part of the protected area; its proximity to the town makes Baba a distinct nature destination alongside the attractions in town. The area and its dolomitic ground provide the setting for these protected communities.

Educational trails and cycling routes

At 13 kilometers, the Kimbiark educational trail is the longer of the two routes described. It starts at the primary school on Komenského Street, passes through Svit’s historic district to Podskalka, crosses Mount Bôrik to Mengusovce, and then returns. The route links local history with a path passing several named places and landscape features. No walking time or difficulty level is specified, so plan the route according to your own schedule and fitness level.

The Svit–Poprad cycling and inline skating route offers a different kind of activity. It follows the Poprad River and its tributary, the Mlynica, and is suitable for beginner and advanced skaters as well as cyclists. The “Cyklochodníkom do Lopušnej doliny” cycling route is separate: it runs from Poprad through Svit to Lopušná dolina, with views of the High Tatras and the peaks of the Kozie Chrbty. The routes therefore differ both in their names and in the landscapes they are described as passing through.

The HORAL MTB Marathon has also been a regular part of the town’s cycling calendar, taking place in Svit without interruption since 2000. The event includes an 18-kilometer family route with 180 meters of elevation gain. These specific details help give an idea of the route; check dates and current event details separately when planning your trip.

Church, town history and seasonal activities

The Church of St Joseph the Worker was consecrated on July 6, 1991. Its spacious interior is laid out on an octagonal floor plan. The church and its associated parish building stand on the right bank of the Poprad. Another glimpse into the town’s history is offered by the so-called Baťova červená kolónia: construction began in connection with the establishment of the Baťa factory, to house the factory’s workers and employees. The church and the workers’ colony offer different perspectives—one on sacred architecture, the other on industrial and residential history.

At the Svit–Lopušná dolina ski area, all 1.8 kilometers of ski runs are covered by artificial snowmaking. For night skiing, 930 meters of illuminated runs are listed; there are also three kilometers of groomed cross-country trails. These details describe different winter activities, whose operation depends on seasonal conditions. Check current operating conditions before your visit. If you would rather go swimming or enjoy other indoor facilities, Plaváreň has a 25-meter pool with a water depth of 120 to 180 centimeters. Steam baths, a fitness room, massage services and a snack bar are also listed among the facilities. As opening hours and availability may vary, checking before your visit is recommended.
