Hozelec between culture, landscape and play
Hozelec brings together several distinct themes: local history, with a manor house and Gothic church fragments; an area of European importance; and indoor play. Hozelské slaniská and FunVille represent the landscape and indoor activities. Those considering Hozelec as a travel destination can choose to focus on architectural history, nature or its play attractions.
Hozelské slaniská and its features
The area of European importance SKUEV0139 is now called Hozelské slaniská; it was formerly known as Gánovské slaniská. The standardized name has been in use since September 20, 2023. Both names refer to the same area. Most of it lies within the cadastral area of Hozelec. Mineral springs and the more recent formation of travertine deposits are among the area’s features.
Manor house, church and altar
The Neoclassical manor house was built in the final decades of the 18th century at the initiative of the Okolicsányi family. It is currently regarded as the municipality of Hozelec’s most valuable architectural monument and is listed as the national cultural monument NKP Kúria, identification number ÚZPF 876/1.
A different historical period is represented by the single-nave Gothic church dedicated to Saint Martin the Bishop. It was probably built around the turn of the 14th century and has not been fully preserved. Architectural fragments of the church are displayed in the village center near the bell tower.
The Late Gothic high altar for this church was made between 1516 and 1520 in the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča. The dates differ in their level of precision: the church’s dating is considered probable, the altar is dated to a specific period, and the manor house was built several centuries later.
Route and water phenomenon
The “Po stopách neandertálcov” route passes through Hozelec. Along the route, there are several places to stop for refreshments, benches and informative signs. Both rest stops and information features are therefore among the amenities described along the route.
Another natural phenomenon concerns the ŠHG-2 borehole: water erupts from it at intervals. The timing varies. The two water-related features have different characteristics: Hozelské slaniská is associated with mineral springs and travertine deposits in the area, while ŠHG-2 is notable for its water outflow at variable intervals.
FunVille as an indoor play attraction
FunVille is an indoor children’s playground below the Tatras in Hozelec, with attractions spread across 700 m². Its offerings include a large climbing and play structure, a car track, climbing walls, a Lego zone, a sports zone, ball pits, trampolines, air cannons, a fountain, slides and a toboggan. The attractions may change.
The selection ranges from climbing and sports features to a Lego zone and ball pits. This makes FunVille, as an indoor play attraction, quite different from the architectural and landscape themes that also characterize Hozelec.
