In Malý Slavkov, nature, architectural history and outdoor activities offer distinct areas of interest. Places to explore range from two nature reserves and the Roman Catholic Church of St Michael to the Royal Valley Golf Course and cycling routes towards the High Tatras.

Nature in two protected areas

The Slavkovský jarok protected area lies within the cadastral area of Malý Slavkov and covers 2.48 hectares. This area is subject to the fourth level of protection. Slavkovský jarok is also one of three sites of an endangered species in the Podtatra region. The Slavkovský potok flows through Malý Slavkov and originates in the Skalnatá Valley in the Tatras.

The Kút nature reserve covers 11.22 hectares and extends partly into the north-western part of Malý Slavkov. Several plant species that are considered critically endangered grow there. Kút is larger in area than Slavkovský jarok. The nature features mentioned also distinguish the areas: at Slavkovský jarok, the protection level and the site of an endangered species are specified; at Kút, the endangered plant species and its partial location in the north-west are noted.

Church of St Michael

The Roman Catholic Church of St Michael was built between 1844 and 1847 in the Neoclassical style. It features an organ by Gebruder Rieger with the dates Vienna 1873 and Paris 1878, as well as a late Renaissance relief. The organ dates are later than the construction period; the relief’s stylistic classification points to a different era from the Neoclassical style of the church building. The church therefore brings together various historical features: its construction period, the organ inscriptions and the relief’s style.

Golf and views of the High Tatras

The Royal Valley Golf Course is located in Malý Slavkov, in a landscape at the foot of the Tatras, and offers views of the High Tatras’ peaks. The course is designed for a broad range of golfers, from beginners to experienced players. Golf is therefore a clearly defined activity, combined with the described landscape views.

Cycling towards the Tatras

Marked forest cycling routes lead from Malý Slavkov towards the High Tatras. The Kežmarok–Malý Slavkov–Vrbov route also runs along asphalt, field and forest roads. The difference is clear when choosing a route: the marked forest cycling routes head towards the High Tatras, while the named route is defined by its sequence of places and varied road surfaces. If you are planning to cycle, you can choose based on the direction towards the High Tatras or follow the route through Kežmarok, Malý Slavkov and Vrbov. As route details can change, check the current route before setting out.
