Vrbov combines thermal pools that can be used year-round with a rich architectural heritage and routes for walking and cycling. When planning your trip, it’s worth choosing your main focus first: at Thermal Park, the season matters; for the churches, it’s their architectural history; and for the routes, the specific route description.

Thermal Park: Pools and Season

Thermal Park Vrbov has nine pools, including three children’s pools. Thermal pools with geothermal water can be used year-round; during the winter season, four pools with geothermal and clear water are available. The seasonal winter selection complements the year-round offering and makes the time of your trip a practical planning factor. Individual facilities may change, so check the park’s latest information before your visit.

Churches, Architectural History and Craftsmanship

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Servác is a Romanesque church dating from the second half of the 13th century. It is considered the oldest and most significant building in Vrbov’s conservation area and has a richly decorated Baroque interior. The Romanesque church architecture and Baroque interior bring together two distinctly different historical styles.

The other buildings offer different points of interest: the masonry bell tower is a late Gothic structure with a square ground plan, dating from the 16th century. To its south stands the Immaculata, a Marian column with a statue of the Virgin Mary. The Evangelical church is Baroque-Classical and was built in 1784 as a Tolerance church without a tower. Linen-making also has a long tradition in Vrbov, adding the history of a local craft to the architectural perspective.

The dates range from the second half of the 13th century, through the 16th-century bell tower, to the Evangelical church of 1784. This makes it possible to compare the architectural history across several clearly identified periods.

Walk and Cycling Route

A walk around Vrbov begins behind the town at a car park. It first follows a comfortable paved path along the banks of the ponds for about 20 minutes, then turns onto a farm track. From there, the route leads to a viewpoint overlooking the peaks of the High Tatras. The estimate of about 20 minutes applies to the section along the pond banks, not to the entire walk.

Cycling route 5890, “Zlatná–Kežmarok–Vrbov,” offers a different planning framework from the walk: it is 11 km long and has 120 m of elevation gain. Its surface alternates between asphalt, gravel and farm tracks. Unlike the walk, which initially follows the pond banks for about 20 minutes, the cycling route specifies its length, elevation gain and changing surfaces. This makes it possible to compare the two options using different planning details. As route information and surfaces may change with maintenance, it’s advisable to check the latest details before setting out.
