Lechnica brings together natural and cultural attractions that visitors can prioritize differently during their stay. Outdoor activities include singletrack trails and renewed hiking paths, as well as groomed cross-country ski trails in winter. The village’s history can be seen in the Church of St. Jodok and in surviving elements of folk architecture. This gives you a clear choice when planning your trip: cycling, hiking, seasonal cross-country skiing, or a historical look at the village.

Singletrack Trails with Different Profiles

The Lechnica singletrack trails form a 15-kilometre network of mountain biking routes in the heart of Pieniny National Park. GRIFTOF is nine kilometres long and classified as a family route; GVIZD measures 1.3 kilometres and is a challenging downhill trail for experienced riders. The 15 kilometres describe the network as a whole, not a single route; the shorter distances refer to the named trails. In comparison, GRIFTOF is the longer family route, while GVIZD is shorter but challenging and intended for experienced riders. GRIFTOF and ŠPICA run through coniferous forest and meadows. As trail conditions can change, check the current conditions before your ride.

Hiking Trails and Winter Ski Trails

The visitor amenities include renewed hiking trails. As trail conditions can change, check their current state before setting out. In winter, there are several groomed cross-country ski trails; check their seasonal availability again before travelling. Planning differs depending on the activity: for a hike, current trail conditions matter; for cross-country skiing, it is the availability of the trails on your travel dates.

Church and Village History

Lechnica is a former farming village with surviving elements of folk architecture. The church’s dedication to St. Jodok has been documented since 1419 and is so far the only historically documented dedication to this saint in Slovakia. A church dedication refers to the naming of a church after a saint. The present-day church was built in 1830, after the previous church burned down in 1825. The year 1419 therefore refers to the history of the dedication, not to the construction date of the present church building. Alongside the history of the church’s dedication, folk architecture offers a second historical perspective on the village.

Location and Natural Setting

Lechnica lies in the valley of the Havka stream at the foot of Spišská Magura; the Dunajec runs along the edge of the village. These descriptions refer to different aspects of its location: the valley and mountain foothills on the one hand, and the river at the edge of the village on the other. Parts of Lechnica lie within Pieniny National Park, where the second level of protection applies. The mountain biking network is in the heart of the park; only parts of the village itself are within the park, not the entire settlement. Lechnica also has a wild boar enclosure. As access information can change, check the latest notices before visiting.
