For finding your way around Súlovce, the landscape and cycling routes are two practical starting points; local history adds named places and historical traces. Before your trip, you can consider whether you would most like to learn about the landscape, cycling connections, or the history of the municipality.

Landscape between the Hills and the Tribeč Mountains

The Ponitrie Protected Landscape Area also includes the municipality of Súlovce. The village lies at the transition between the Nitrianska sprašová pahorkatina (Nitra Loess Hills) and the northwestern foothills of the Tribeč Mountains. The municipal area includes open hilly landscapes, alluvial fans, and areas covered with oak-hornbeam forests. The Tribeč Mountains extend above Súlovce; their highest peak is Veľký Tribeč. The landscape can therefore be understood in terms of more than its mountain setting: the open hills, alluvial fans, and wooded areas are also part of the municipality’s character.

Cycling Routes Through and Near Súlovce

Local cycling route 5109 runs from Oponice to Babova dolina through Súlovce. In Babova dolina, it crosses the Tribečská hrebeňovka cycling route (049). This clearly identifies two route connections: route 5109 passes through the village to Babova dolina, where it crosses the main route. Another cycling route leads to Súlovce via Topoľčany, Solčany, and Oponice. This route follows paved roads and is suitable for various types of bicycles. As road conditions can change, check them before setting out.

Local History and Traces of the Past

The first written mention of Súlovce dates to 1244. Historical forms of the name include Dubnica (Dubnicza), Súloc (Zúlocz), and Szúlocz. Since the second half of the 19th century, the settlement of Podlužany has been part of the municipality of Súlovce; a mill was built there that still exists today. Betlehem, a district of Súlovce, was once a sheep farm. The history of the church also points to Betlehem: the original bells were melted down and replaced with bells from Betlehem. The village’s historical heritage also includes seals of the village judge. Together, these details offer different ways to explore local history—from the earliest written mention and settlements within the municipality to individual surviving objects.

A Hiking Example and Getting There

A specific hiking example dates to 2019: during a KST-Žochár winter ascent, a 21 km route led from Súlovce via Cincilak, Veľký Tribeč, the Vlčica hut, Pozerák, and Kovarský sklad to Solčany. The year identifies this ascent as a past example, not a current event date.

A municipal notice published on January 29, 2026, listed regional bus route 406 422 as a connection between Topoľčany, Solčany, Súlovce, and Nitra. If you are considering this route for your travel plans, check the current timetable before departure.
