Svrbice lies at the western tip of the Okres Topoľčany district and at the eastern foot of the Považský Inovec. For planning your visit, an easy hike, the local landscape and several historical points of interest offer concrete guidance. You can focus your stay on outdoor activities or explore the village through its natural and local history.

Hiking and Cycling

The Svrbická stopa is an easy, seven-kilometre hike from Havran to Svrbice. In the 2025 edition, one route also ran from Havran to Svrbice; a new circular route started in Svrbice. Both routes were about seven kilometres long. They therefore differ mainly in route format and starting or finishing point, not in their stated approximate length. The formats may vary between editions. So if you are planning to take part in a particular edition, check the route details for that edition.

The 044 – Around Považský Inovec cycling route also passes through Svrbice. Forestry work may affect conditions on parts of the route. Check the latest cycling route notices before setting out; this notice applies to parts of this route.

Landscape of the Považský Inovec

Svrbice lies on the edge of the Nitrianska sprašová pahorkatina and the Považský Inovec. The two landscape regions also differ geologically. The Považský Inovec near Svrbice is considered a forested mountain range with diverse flora and fauna. The area can therefore be viewed both through the geological classification of its landscape and its forest character.

Local fauna includes foxes, badgers, squirrels, wild boar, roe deer and red deer. Birds mentioned include owls, kestrels and pheasants. The plant life includes beech, oak, hornbeam and birch. These species give the description of the natural environment specific detail, without reducing the landscape to a single point of view.

History in Several Stages

Svrbice was first documented in 1268 under the name Surbich. The settlements of Tešín and Drin, which were later incorporated, are also part of the village’s history: Tešín was mentioned in 1414, and Drin in 1620; both were later absorbed into Svrbice. Agriculture and viticulture were among the historical occupations. Vineyards in Svrbice are recorded for 1715. The dates trace the history from the village’s first mention, through the names of the two settlements, to a specific record of the land’s former use.

Church and Festival History

Svrbice is home to the Roman Catholic branch church of Panny Márie Kráľovnej pokoja. It was built in 1956 and consecrated in 1957. The church belongs to the parish of Ardanovce in the Radošina Deanery. The years of its construction and consecration provide a separate point of reference alongside the village’s earlier historical mentions.

A historical snapshot of local events is the 37th edition of JÁNSKE OHNE, held on 25 June 2022 at Svrbická Hôrka. The programme included an easy hike, children’s games, and a cultural and sports programme. Goulash and refreshments were offered at Jánske ohne as a long-standing local tradition.
