Nové Sady stretches along both banks of the Radošinka stream in its middle course. The area also has historical landmarks with clearly distinct dates and locations: churches from different centuries, a Renaissance manor house on the site of a former castle, and a Jewish cemetery. A recurring ploughing competition is also part of local culture. When choosing where to stay, consider whether you want to focus mainly on architectural history, local history or a cultural event.
The Evangelical Toleration Church and its construction phases
The Evangelical Toleration Church in Nové Sady was consecrated on 5 October 1786. Its surviving masonry tower was built in 1869. The comprehensive renovation, completed in 1962, preserved the original Toleration layout, spacious chancel and tower. These dates refer to different events: 1786 marks the consecration, 1869 the construction of the tower, and 1962 the completion of the comprehensive renovation.
An older church site
The original Gothic Roman Catholic church already stood between 1520 and 1530 on a hill above the municipality; the cemetery of Nové Sady is now located on this site. On a hill in front of the Catholic cemetery stands a statue of Jesus Christ, clearly visible from the centre of the village. The church site and the statue therefore provide two distinct points of reference: one is at the present-day cemetery, while the other can be seen from the centre.
The manor house and Jewish cemetery
The manor house in Nové Sady was originally an early 17th-century Renaissance manor house. It was built on the site of a former castle, which was mentioned in 1550. This year refers to the castle, not to the manor house built later. Another part of local history is commemorated at the Jewish cemetery: it recalls the once significant Jewish community of Nové Sady, whose members fell victim to the Holocaust during the Second World War.
Guided tours and a recurring competition
A guided tour of the Múzeum Nové Sady can be booked during the municipal office's opening hours. As booking arrangements may change, it is best to check the current options in advance. Novosadská brázda is also a recurring ploughing competition held in Nové Sady. Tractors and historic machinery are part of the competition. Here, the focus is on competition and machinery rather than architecture.
The RADOŠINKA observation tower
The RADOŠINKA observation tower stands on a ridge of the Nitrianska pahorkatina, historically known as Mraha, at the meeting point of the cadastral territories of Čab, Nové Sady and Šurianky. The stream and the observation tower are two different geographical reference points: the Radošinka describes the village's location on both banks of its middle course, while the observation tower is located by reference to the ridge and the three adjoining cadastral territories. This makes it possible to distinguish the location of the village from that of this prominent landmark.
