Malý Cetín brings together traces of local history, cycling and leisure activities that vary with the seasons. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is worth first considering what you want to focus your stay on: buildings and historical connections, cycling and the Golianovo observation tower, or activities tied to summer or winter. This choice helps you plan your stay around a particular theme.

Buildings and local history

The former one-classroom primary school building is part of the area’s architectural history. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century and now houses the municipal office of Malý Cetín. Its change from a one-classroom primary school into a municipal office makes the building a landmark of local history.

Two other religious buildings add to the historical picture: the chapel was built in 1965, and the Church of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary was consecrated in 2008. The statue of Saint Urban is also part of the village’s cultural landscape; it stands in the vineyards of Malý Cetín.

The names associated with the Cetínka also reach far back into history. The historical name “Cherhen” has been recorded for the river since 1240. Another date relates to the area formed by the Cetínka: in 1272 it was referred to as “terra Ceten,” or the land of Cetín. The river name and the name of the area thus point to different historical references. Settlement in the area between Čechynce, Malý Cetín and Veľký Cetín dates back at least 3,500 years.

Cycling and the observation tower

Two route details are useful for finding your way by bike. The cycling route from Nitra to Golianovo branches off toward Malý Cetín. The Golianovo observation tower, meanwhile, stands on the Nitra–Vráble cycle path, on the border between Malý Cetín and Golianovo. This places the tower along the second route, while the first route description indicates the turn toward Malý Cetín. The tower is 22 metres tall, open year-round and free to enter. Its location on the cycle path and its stated height make it a useful landmark when planning a cycling trip. If your schedule depends on visiting the tower, check the latest opening and admission information before setting out.

Seasonal leisure activities

The season also affects which leisure activities you can choose. In summer, fishing is possible in a former meander of the Nitra near Malý Cetín; in winter, the same stretch can be used for ice skating. Summer fishing and winter ice skating are therefore two clearly distinct seasonal options. If one of these experiences is the reason for your trip, you can use the relevant season as the starting point for your plans.

Malý Cetín also has a multi-purpose sports court with evening lighting. The municipality’s events include an Easter table tennis tournament. If you want to combine your visit with this event, check the exact date before making plans.
