Čab combines scenic views with clearly dated traces of local history and a recurring culinary competition. This offers different ways to plan your trip: you can focus on nature and views, take an interest in Baroque and Neo-Gothic buildings, or consider the Čabský kotlík competition. Landscape and local history are not in competition: the viewpoint puts the surroundings in context, while the column and chapel provide specific historical reference points.
Čab Between the Hills and Radošinka
Čab lies on the western slopes of the Nitrianska pahorkatina and on both sides of the Radošinka stream. The two descriptions set different scales: the hilly landscape provides the broader setting, while the stream describes the village’s location. Together, they help put the landscape in context without equating the stream with the entire surrounding area. The RADOŠINKA observation tower provides another geographical reference point. It stands on a ridge in the Nitrianska pahorkatina, historically called Mraha, at 218 m above sea level. The cadastral areas of Čab, Nové Sady and Šurianky meet at this point. The stream, hills and ridge thus describe different aspects of local geography: the village’s connection to water, its position in the landscape and the location of the observation tower.
Far-Reaching Views from the RADOŠINKA Observation Tower
From the RADOŠINKA observation tower, the view stretches across the Podunajská pahorkatina and takes in the Tribeč, Vtáčnik, Strážovské vrchy, Považský Inovec and Malé Karpaty mountain ranges. The old city of Nitra and nearby Topoľčany are also visible. The view thus encompasses a hilly landscape, several mountain ranges and two cities; it offers a different way to experience the region than its local history, which is anchored in individual buildings. The tower is a destination for active tourism and leisure, appealing to nature lovers, hikers and cyclists. If you organize your priorities by interest, the landscape takes centre stage here, while the Morový stĺp and chapel offer a historical complement.
Monument, Chapel and Local History
The Morový stĺp is the oldest monument in Čab and a Baroque plague column. It commemorates the 46 people who died during the cholera outbreak of 1773 and is protected by the Monuments Board. This memorial is connected to a specific historical event. Nearby, the new chapel represents a different architectural style and a later period: it was built in 1889 at a road junction in a Romanticizing style, is Neo-Gothic in design and is dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius, the apostles to the Slavs. Historically, Mass was held in the chapel only on feast days and at funerals. The two buildings therefore differ in their historical significance: the column commemorates the victims of the 1773 cholera outbreak, while the chapel combines Neo-Gothic architecture with devotion to its patron saints and a history of religious use.
Čabský kotlík: Goulash Cooking and Music
Čabský kotlík is a recurring public goulash-cooking competition. The third edition took place on 3 September 2022; the municipality announced that the seventh edition would be held on 5 September 2026. The third edition was followed by a music programme, and one was also planned for the announced seventh edition. This community culinary event complements Čab’s landscape and cultural themes.
