Rumanová can be explored through a range of historical and landscape landmarks: the castle and its park, the Chapel of the Virgin Mary of the Rosary, and the Meteorite Nature Trail each offer a different perspective. Together, they provide several ways to shape a stay—from architectural history and the use of the park to a short themed walk.

Castle and Park

The castle and park are the oldest surviving architectural site in Rumanová. The castle was first mentioned in writing in 1663; the late Classicist building was erected by the Andrássy family in the first half of the 19th century. The written mention in 1663 therefore does not refer to the construction date of the late Classicist building. Following revitalization from 2008 to 2010, residents and visitors have used the park for recreation, relaxation and sports activities. The castle and park thus bring together a history of architecture and present-day recreational use.

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary of the Rosary

The chapel stands as a freestanding building on slightly elevated ground in the centre of Rumanová. Originally, it was a Baroque chapel built without a tower in the first half of the 18th century; an attached tower was added in 1900. The single-nave building has a semicircular apse, a flat interior ceiling and a tower with an onion dome. An apse forms the rounded end of the church interior; the single-nave plan describes its main space. Together with the tower added later, these features give an impression of the building’s form and its development over time.

Other Monuments and the Protected Landscape Area

The Rumanová–Báb stone cross stands on the cadastral boundary beside the state road and was erected in 1790. The local cemetery contains a tomb with a gravestone (ÚZPF 1534/0), a national cultural monument dating from 1920. The dates place these landmarks in relation to the chapel: the cross dates from later than its original construction in the first half of the 18th century, but earlier than the tower addition in 1900.

The Rumanovský park protected landscape area was designated in 1982 to protect the historic park by the castle. This brings the landscape protection of the historic park into view alongside its architectural history. If you would like to visit the protected area, check local access arrangements.

Meteorite Nature Trail

The Meteorite Nature Trail is a self-guided, linear walking route that can be followed in either direction and is open year-round. Its focus brings together nature, astronomy and cultural history. The easy route is 1.4 kilometres long; walking time is one hour, and there are three stops along the way. The starting point is the statue of Saint Vendelín on the northern edge of Rumanová. From there, the trail heads north along a field road to the Mikloš area, which has a pond. The distance, duration and number of stops give the trail a clearly defined timeframe for planning a visit. As on-site infrastructure may change, check local access arrangements before setting out.
