The Lúčanský Waterfall tumbles from a travertine terrace into a pond in the heart of Lúčky—a striking natural feature in a place whose history has also been shaped by springs and spa activity. The area also has other travertine formations, a nature trail leading to Veľký Choč and local cultural activities. When planning your visit, it is worth keeping these highlights distinct: the waterfall, a visit to the water park and the hike to the summit are different ways to experience Lúčky.

Waterfall and Travertine

Lúčanský Waterfall is a 13-metre-high cascade waterfall. It falls from the edge of a travertine terrace into a pond and has been protected as a national natural monument since 1974. Warm springs from the spa resort flow into it, so the waterfall does not freeze over and can be admired year-round. Water conditions may vary seasonally.

The Lúčanské travertíny form a distinct part of the landscape. They include the plateau-like rise of Skálie and the rock walls of Zápoly and Skaličky. These travertine formations have also been protected as a natural monument since 1975. There are also six mineral springs north of Lúčky. During a stay, you can therefore take in both the waterfall and other geological features and springs.

Spa History and Warm Outdoor Pools

The spa resort Kúpele Lúčky has a history stretching back several centuries. After the springs were revived around 1760, the town developed more strongly at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries as a destination for treatment, relaxation and entertainment. This history gives the spa theme a clear local connection today.

According to the operator (as of August 2026), AQUA-VITAL Park is open year-round. It has a heated outdoor relaxation pool at 28–32 °C and an outdoor sitting pool with healing mineral water at 36–38 °C. The different pool types and temperature ranges offer a practical guide for your visit. Facilities and access conditions may change, so check the latest information from the operator before your visit.

Nature Trail and Cycling Route

The “Choč pre nás a my pre neho” nature trail starts in Lúčky. It passes Lúčanský Waterfall and the spa area, runs through the valley and forest, and continues to the summit of Veľký Choč. The route passes through the Choč National Nature Reserve. The summit offers panoramic views in every direction; visibility depends on the weather. The route may change, so check current trail conditions before setting out.

The waterfall is a single natural attraction, while the nature trail connects several landscape sections all the way to the summit. Depending on the type of outing you want, you can decide whether to focus on the waterfall or take the trail through the valley and forest to Veľký Choč. A marked cycling route also runs by the DEO chapel.

Church and Local Traditions

The Roman Catholic Church of Povýšenia sv. Kríža was built from 1820 to 1824 and consecrated in 1825. Two paintings by Jozef Hanula are preserved in the church. Alojz Fellegi painted the church’s interior in the 1930s; the depictions include the Stations of the Cross.

Rafting is also part of Lúčky’s history: in the past, the town was known primarily for it. The figure of the raftsman shaped artistic work, life stories and the style of many residents. This tradition offers a different way to discover the town from its nature and spa themes.

Pamätný domček Lúčky shows how people’s ancestors once lived in two traditionally furnished rooms. Visits are available by request during the tourist information centre’s opening hours. If you are planning a visit, check with the tourist information centre in advance.

The tourist information centre offers guided tours of Lúčky in traditional Lúčky dress and accompanied by Lúčky songs. Children and adults can take part in hands-on beekeeping excursions at an apiary in Lúčky. The programme also includes talks on sourdough baking with a tasting. The centre provides information about excursions and attractions in Lúčky, as well as nearby caves, water parks and cycling routes.
