Príbovce can be explored from two perspectives: its location in the Turčianska kotlina places the village within its landscape, while its churches, mill and manor house reveal several layers of local history. Two cycling routes that pass through or include Príbovce add to its appeal.

Location and protected areas

Príbovce lies in the centre of the Turčianska kotlina, on the alluvial fan of the Blatnický potok, below its confluence with the Turiec. These two watercourses are central to understanding the village’s geographical setting. Several protected areas also extend into the municipality: the Turiec National Nature Reserve, the SKUEV 0382 Turiec and Blatnický potok protected area, and the Mokrade Turca wetlands protected under international agreements. These designations cover different areas and are among the important natural features of the village.

Archaeology and churches

The history of Príbovce dates back to the Bronze Age. A Lusatian urnfield bears witness to settlement at the end of this period. Later, the village lay on an old historic road from Ponitrie. Among its notable buildings is the Roman Catholic Church of St Simon and St Jude: it dates from the 14th century and was built in the Gothic style. It was remodelled in the Renaissance style in the 17th century. The church also contains a valuable Renaissance bell dating from 1591. Its architectural history thus combines medieval origins with later changes and a dated detail of its furnishings.

The Evangelical church has its own timeline. It was built in 1829 in the Baroque-Classical style, replacing an older wooden church erected during the period of religious toleration in 1783. The two churches therefore differ in both their date of construction and architectural style; the replacement of the earlier church is also part of the Evangelical church’s documented history.

Water mill and manor house

The Achimský water mill is also part of the local heritage. It is the only one of the historic Turiec mills that still stands in Príbovce today. Near the confluence of the Turiec and Blatnický potok is a manor house with a round bastion tower, which local residents call kaštieľ. It was built on a Renaissance foundation and remodelled at the beginning and towards the end of the 19th century. Over the course of its history, the building served as a primary school, kindergarten and municipal library, as well as a venue for other educational and social activities.

Cycling and getting there

Marked and maintained cycling route No. 5427 passes through Príbovce and is 10 km long. The Turčianska bicyklová skupina JUS is responsible for its marking and maintenance. Another option is the Tanková cesta route, which includes Príbovce. It is suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes and offers views across the entire Turčianska kotlina. The 10 km figure gives a specific indication of the length of route 5427; the Tanková cesta route is described in terms of the bicycle types it suits and the views it offers.

There is a bus stop in the municipality serving both directions, approximately in the centre of the village and near the municipal office. Príbovce is well served by regional buses from Martin and by long-distance bus connections. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable for your travel date.
