Senec combines water recreation at Slnečné jazerá with cultural history surrounding the Renaissance manor house on the central square. There is also the aquapark and a tourist train that connects the lakes with the city center in summer. When choosing a hotel in Senec, it therefore helps to consider whether you are mainly planning to spend time by the water or also want to explore the city's history.
Water activities: Slnečné jazerá and the aquapark
Slnečné jazerá covers a water area of nearly 120 hectares. Swimming, water sports, boating, and fishing are all possible here. Grassy beaches and gently sloping access to the water are other features of the lake area. The average water temperature is 25 °C; actual swimming conditions may vary by season. With several options for activities on the water, the lakes offer different ways to spend your time here, from swimming to boating or fishing.
Aquapark Senec operates year-round. Six different pools use water from a borehole, with temperatures ranging from 28 to 38 °C. During the summer season, the number of pools increases to as many as eleven. The facilities also include a 25-meter swimming pool and the LAZY RIVER water attraction, which may be available seasonally. This gives you a choice of warm pools and specific water attractions, in addition to activities at the lakes. Check the latest operating information before your visit, as operating arrangements may change.
Between the lakes and city center in summer
The Senec Express tourist train connects Slnečné jazerá with the city center. In summer, it runs daily from 9:00 to 22:00 at regular hourly intervals. Its 7.3-kilometer route loops around the lakes, with both its starting point and terminus at Senec's main square. The ride thus connects the lake area with the city center. If you want to include the train in your day's plans, check the current timetable in advance: seasonal operations may change.
Renaissance architecture and city history
The Renaissance manor house Turecký dom stands on the central square. It was built between 1556 and 1560 by Krištof Baťán, the count of Bratislava County. The building offers a tangible connection to the history of the Senec region and complements the water activities with a cultural and historical theme. Turecký dom currently houses the Senec City Museum; the local tourist information office is also located there. The building's history, museum, and tourist information are thus all brought together in one place.
Another cultural highlight is Senecké leto, a traditional social and cultural event. Since 1990, it has marked the start of the summer tourism season at Slnečné jazerá and takes place in mid-June on the lakes' southern shore. Dates may vary from year to year, so check the dates for your travel period. Senec also features a permanent exhibition about the nature and earlier history of Senec and its surroundings. It broadens the perspective on the city to include nature and the region's past.
