A hologram of the Halič treasure at the Múzeum Csontváry and original ceiling frescoes from 1762 at Haličský zámok represent two distinct sides of Halič’s cultural heritage. The town is located in the northwestern part of the Lučenecká kotlina, in the valley of the Tuhársky potok, at an altitude of 267 metres.

Castle, Museum and Architectural History

Haličský zámok is a national cultural monument. Guided tours also include the representative Župná sieň, with its original ceiling frescoes from 1762. Public tours take place on Sundays and Mondays at 1:00 pm, 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm; each tour requires at least six people. The schedule may change, so it is advisable to check the current tour times before visiting.

The Múzeum Csontváry is dedicated to the life and work of the painter T. K. Csontváry, as well as the history of Halič and its surroundings. Large-scale projections complement touchscreens featuring works and historical documents. The museum also has a hologram of the Halič treasure and a virtual potter’s wheel. The exhibition thus combines paintings, historical content and digital interpretation; the technical presentation may change over time. Visits are possible during opening hours, and larger groups should register in advance. If you are visiting for a particular installation, it is best to check the current opening hours and exhibition information beforehand.

The buildings, too, tell different chapters of the town’s history. The Roman Catholic Church of Nájdenia sv. Kríža is a national cultural monument: a Neoclassical, single-nave church dating from around 1826. The Neo-Romanesque burial chapel of the Forgách family may date back to 1844. It was inspired by Egyptian pyramid structures; its limestone components were precisely worked before being transported to their destination.

The former cloth manufactory building is a Neoclassical structure from the early 19th century, expanded and remodelled around 1830. The first mechanical loom in Slovakia was installed at the former cloth manufactory in 1867. Another architectural monument is the Soľný úrad: the building dates from the late 18th century and combines Baroque and Neoclassical forms; its archway is dated 1768.

Landscape and Visit Planning

Haličský lesopark is a protected natural monument. Originally laid out in the French style, it was later expanded with naturalistic areas and a lake. Its design therefore includes both the historic layout and the naturalistic areas added later.

Picnics and boat rides beneath a romantic bridge to an original island are possible in Zámocký park. Cycling and recreational fishing are also among the available activities; these depend on current park rules and conditions. Zámocký rybník, with the Altánok Filagória, has a picturesque island and beach loungers.

The restored Strážny domček has a small railway exhibition and a model of the railway station in TT scale; both are open to the public. Check the local visiting arrangements before planning a specific visit. The ways to visit in Halič differ considerably: for the museum, opening hours and advance registration for larger groups are important; castle tours have set times and a minimum group size, while park activities are subject to the applicable conditions.
